i think this is a bit more nuanced than what some may think. in the short term we absolutely have the leverage but that leverage is decreasing. whether we like it or no the world is changing. that doesn't mean it can't be great for america but i am not sure the days of we say jump and everyone says how high will continue for that much longer. i think it it prudent to employee different strategies at different times. trump is all about the negotiation so i am sure this is part of that.

Let India buy Russian oil and use their savings to buy the F-35.
Win-Win.

Same here. Especially when you're trying to talk to someone and finally get past the automated system labyrinth only to end up with someone that you can barely understand.

Just keep pressing 0 over and over. That breaks out of 99% of the ICD systems and will get you a live human.

Aren't those call centers owned by American companies?

No

My company's Indian employees are employed by an Indian subsidiary we "contract" with

Other centers are owned by Indian firms and the reps are contractors. Some agents will even take calls for multiple end clients on the same shift.

India is a very poor country with a horrible government, and an enormous economy/population. They basically have the worst of British autocracy without any of the benefits of an educated and prosperous middle class.

I am curious how this one plays out, as I am not sure they even have a capacity to meet what Trump might demand. And yes, I know their trade barriers/tariffs etc. are and have been horrid.

It's not surprising.

That is where the mean IQ of India falls. Since its a normal curve, you literally have 700 million idiots walking around over there. You have another 500 million below average intelligence walking around.

This is why it's going to be difficult (but not impossible) to target American companies shipping jobs overseas.

Lol, well I have been dealing with exactly that over a keyboard replacement (second time) on a Dell laptop. But Dell has it figured out. Almost impossible to speak to someone for repair work (still under warranty). It is almost all done via email, though a great deal of it was via text. Maybe their idea is that most people won't know they are dealing with someone in India if they can't hear their voice. You can tell in emails and text messages by the words they use and phrases they use.

We are a distributor who buys quite a bit from India - also US, Taiwan, Thailand, Japan, China. Some of this is dictated by our customers (must be made by a certain manufacturer), some of it is based on having the most capable manufacture make the products and yes some is based on lowest cost of acquisition.

Does everyone understand who is really paying these tariffs??

We (a US corporation) pay the tariffs on goods inbound and then we pass that increase on to our customers - who pass it on to their customers where it gets baked into the cost of necessary (not luxury) services provided to everyday Americans...who...guess what...will get to pay higher prices for those same services.

Yes, we are working to adapt to use sources in other countries where we can - but that doesn't happen overnight. Many of these products are engineering qualified through lengthy and expensive testing and customers are literally unable to change components in their equipment until they redo all of that testing - at great expense and time to them (again increasing costs).

Everyone can clap about this - and maybe it will end very good for US - I hope so. But these whipsaw policy/tariff changes are happening faster than the supply chain can react. Companies shifted to India after China az-ho...now they are getting whammied in India. Do they spend big money moving production again only to have that change?

Local CPA firm is outsourcing all their tax prep to India because they can't find any accountants for public accounting work anymore.

Very good response. Too many knee jerk comments. Business can only take on so so much added cost before they pass it to the consumer

Bring jobs in-house. Then show everyone the finger.

I have been tracking Indian analysts and they are all crowing about howmean Trump is and how US needs India and how American corporations will collapse without Indian back-office support.

Sure there is, PISA scores correlate with IQ very well and global PISA scores match up almost exactly with reported national average IQ scores.

India stopped the test years ago because they were second to last and didn't want to embarrass themselves further.
