Yep. According to BOP it cost roughly 40k/year to house an inmate. So called conservatives want to spend almost a half million dollars of our tax dollars because the guy pulled a funny yet obviously dumb stunt.

Enforcing pretty much any law costs money. And its done as a deterrent to prevent FUTURE crimes which lowers the overall cost to keep people civil.

According to you if it costs money to prevent crime we should just allow the crime instead? Yeah, no thanks - I'll pass on your liberal utopia.
Save money, put them to work
Among the latter, under pretence of governing they have divided their nations into two classes, wolves and sheep.”

And of course they did nothing to him.

I don't think that was the transport time but rather the time until the possession was regained. Regardless this should have a punishment but ten years max is a gross overreach. A lesser charge would have been a conviction most likely

Maybe they should have gone with a charge that fit along the lines of "interfering" with an investigation, instead of charging someone with theft for moving a vehicle a block away.

Maybe but he interfered with ICE, law enforcement.

That makes it a little different than just moving a random person's vehicle.

If it was a state law he violated the I would agree. But this was a federal law and the DOJ is not going easy on people interfering with ICE. My guess is that he chooses a plea deal to stay out of jail.

See Annie's post just a few above. Of course, the defender of tyranny blames Trump DOJ for over-charging/

Prosecutors that over-charge suspects because they are chasing headlines and a political career is why Casey Anthony and countless other criminals walk free.

I agree, it is a really simple concept but some folks can't seem to comprehend that. When you overcharge juries push back.

Is that what they did with Derrick Chauvin? Any Trump cases? Nah.

But, keep acquitting guilty guys and not enforcing laws so we can get on with the national divorce.

He was found not guilty because it was a Los Angeles jury.

If he had cut off an ICE agent's head, he likely would have gotten the same verdict.

18 U.S. Code 111 - Assaulting, resisting, or impeding certain officers or employees
Quote:

(a)In General.Whoever
(1)
forcibly assaults, resists, opposes, impedes, intimidates, or interferes with any person designated in section 1114 of this title while engaged in or on account of the performance of official duties; or
(2)
forcibly assaults or intimidates any person who formerly served as a person designated in section 1114 on account of the performance of official duties during such person's term of service,
shall, where the acts in violation of this section constitute only simple assault, be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than one year, or both, and where such acts involve physical contact with the victim of that assault or the intent to commit another felony, be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than 8 years, or both.

Bold added by me. Seems this is almost exactly what he was doing and should have been charged with. Of course, that's only a misdemeanor, and doesn't reflect the "lawn and odor" these nitwits are trying to project. But charging this person with theft was just stupid.

True. Look at the guy who's on a city council in Oregon who shot a 19-year old girl in the head because she was going to turn him into police, served 27 years in prison and the council defended keeping him on.
