I'm 100% speculating on them losing money but it shouldn't surprise anyone if they were considering that they had smaller market share than Colbert and roughly equal production values.
Probably this…also probably had their attorneys look at FCC rules and determine the FCC had a violations case…and those same attorneys probably determined that his estate would have a defamation case, and those same attorneys probably readily remember Trump beating ABC/Stephanopolus in court for slander/defamation which cost them millions…
