I don't like this. Another war that we aren't required to fight. More treasure and blood for what?

IMO we should diplomatically wall them off and forget about them until the inevitable revolution, then back the best replacement candidate.

although desire the same goal (regime change in Venezuela; the people of Venezuela elected someone else), we need to get back to congress declaring war. But congress has given so much authority to the executive over the years, that he probably has the grounds to do it. Not a fan.

Look, I think what's happened in Venezuela is horrible. But it's going to collapse at some point. I think we should let that happen.

PS- One of the things that I like about Trump is that he's trying to pull us out of all of these unnecessary military engagements. So this seems out of character - maybe there is a good reason?

True. And all of Latin America has a multi century history, with relatively few bright spots, of bouncing between authoritarian Right wing dictators and hard Leftism. Why should we think we are every going to alter the way people think about who should be in power? We have enough problems here at home.

how about we wait for a minute? Trump is probably going to authorize drone strikes on drug operations, not start a war with Maduro's government.

Chavez and Maduro already very quickly collapsed one of the wealthiest countries in this hemisphere, demonstrating exactly what democrat socialist policies can do to a country. We don't need to go to war with them. Many of their upper class already immigrated here 10-20 years ago. Many of their free-hand out seeking poor and criminals immigrated here in the last 5 years. We stopped the flow and need to deport as many as possible from the last 5 years. We don't need to go to war, and I don't think we are.

If these strikes are blowing up drug processing and manufacturing facilities that are supplying the boats, I am fine with it and wish they would expand them to other places in Mexico and Central America. If this is aimed at the Venezuelan military and regime change, I think we have better things to do and should let the Venezuelans topple their own dictator.

My guess that there are at least a couple of reasons, besides the drugs, that are motivating this. First, we want to protect the massive oil fields off the coast of Guyana that Venezuela is threatening war over. Second, it's probably a safe assumption that China is using Venezuela as a base of operations for espionage and dirty work.

Once again this is about the oil. Since 1998, Venezuela oil exports have dropped from 2.2 to less than a million. Their oil is sludge but with Russian oil exports going offline by millions per day, the rest of the world is about to find out how much the world has changed.

The Russians have dropped from 10mil production/exports per day to 5 mil since the Ukrainians have started hitting infrastructure.

Many more millions will be offline once winter hits and the oil freezes in pipelines with no place to send the oil. The end result is probably 7-9 million barrels are going offline compared at what they were producing in 2024.

North Sea production topped out in 2000 at 4m/per day and is now only 1m.

Estimates of total world output per day at beginning of the year range from 83m to 102m. Both of these included Russia with significant production. Even if you take the high number that is a 5-8% drop for the world.

The EU and UK combined need 12mil/day - they produce about 2.2 which includes the North Sea.


China 16.5/day and only produces 4.5-5mil per day.

Wars will be fought and new colonies established to gain access to resources as the old legacy fields dry up and the only growth will be in shale and new off shore exploration.

To help keep the world stable it behooves us to change regimes and get US companies back in charge of Venezuela production to get that number back up and it helps us get rid of an opposition leader in our hemisphere which we are going to turn into a defensive and manufacturing fortress.

One of the reasons China is so belligerent as well as doing solar, dams, coal...

They have to ship oil in, and that leaves them vulnerable iany prolonged war.

I think it is always better to wait till China has a big presence in Venezuela and a military base before we try to do something. To put teeth in this strategy, let's reestablish DEI and do away with the mandatory fitness requirement, while putting in DQ's on every base.

Then we go attack Venezuela and push those Chinese folks out….but leave the leader in place to preserve the 10% fund to the Democratic Party.
