Might get more of these kinds of stories. What my gut is telling me is that there are a whole lot of countries, especially those with shipping interests, that would really like us to decimate Iran's ability to disrupt the SoH and regime change the threat away. I think that any chance for these sideline players to exaggerate a story to provoke a response, it would be in their interest to make.

If the United States attacks Iran after Iran strikes another country (the UAE), does the War Powers clock start again?

I think we were hoping Iran would strike a US vessel so we could claim self defense and not have the War Powers Act apply, but this is a different situation.

Desperate you mean. Time to sink some reserve tankers. And hitting the oil facilities is really, really dumb. Wouldn't be surprised for the UAE to ask for assistance to make that go.

The Northern Alliance model is what we should use. Imbed some CIA forward controllers into the protests and have B-1s provide close air support.

With the decapitation of much of the leadership, the IRGC and Army moved to a "mosaic" command structure. So these shots at UAE and tacks by their "mosquito navy" may not reflect an overall strategy and may reflect a concept of "if you get a chance to shoot some stuff off, try it and maybe we get lucky. Regardless it will give us material for our propaganda to our people and the American media will have our back".

UAE has 80 UH-60 Black Hawks. I suggest they use them to sieze Abu Musa and then island hop to take Siri. From Dubai, both are only about 30 minutes (65 miles) away. Go for it.

This "mosaic" command structure the media seemed so impressed about a few weeks ago doesn't seem very impressive. Who could have guessed dozens of independent command structures without any apparent coordination would result in an incohesive battle response plan?

Nobody in charge and a bunch of randos taking potshots at neighbors while a likely fraudulent civilian government tries to finagle an improbable peace plan that includes keeping nuclear development, and 'tough guys' are trying to bluff their way into controlling the world's most crucial shipping lane. Clown show.

I had read that the IGRC is having to rely on the army to try and re-establish some of the command structure, but as most know that is internally problematic and fraught with competing ideals, motivations and concepts for the future of Iran.

With the ayatollah not effective, then it will continue to be interesting (and difficult) to resolve to an outcome. So I think that just means more bombing.
