Someone said that Iran is about the same size as Europe. Don't believe we are going landbased troops into that type of situation. IRAQ II so Trump will not be that stupid.

I agree that's a fools errand, but strategically bombing them and killing anyone to do with the regime will cause a ton of "save my ass-isms" of the younger and not "fully in" caliphatisits

The King of Jordan did some flying in cobra helicopters

Yep, I looked it up after I posted and it says Cobra's. I could have sworn that I saw 60 minutes about him many years ago and he was flying F-16's. Maybe that was a different guy over there.

Ah, it was his dad King Hussien that flew fixed wing. Not sure why F-16's popped into my head.

Princess Salma, King Abdullah II's younger daughter, flies F-16s.

There are 90 million Iranians. Probably 20 million will never give up their identity. Even if we are able to overthrow the current government. The new regime will be under immediate attack by the believers. Trump needs to do maximum damage to the mullahs and goverments military. Then call it a win....victory and walk away.
Yup. We are better off just coming in every 5 years and whipping the floor with their military than trying to put boots on the ground. Do that as many times as you have to.

We "whipped the floor" with them last year and they were closer to making a nuke this year than last year. If we stop now then we might as well just let them have nukes and let them run the ME for China and Russia.

If we cant find the 400 and something kilograms of enriched uranium they'll continue to be weeks or a few months away from 10 or so nuclear bombs as soon as they retool

A point some people are missing is that there are 2 generations of Iranians who don't know any different. Those are also the generations of most fighting men.

I just read this to my Persian wife who has lived in Iran most of her life. She said most of the younger generations are anti government who want this regime out. Just FYI.

There are reports that they are preparing to send a carrier but sending both would be pretty pointless as they don't really have enough jets/pilots to equip both at once anyway.

This is nowhere near accurate when comparing sizes. Europe is about 5 or 6 times larger in size and about 6 or 7 times larger in population than Iran.

This is a great graph:
Quote:

Iran suddenly says they're "halting attacks on neighboring countries" right when they're ballistic missile fire was on track to reach the single digits anyway. day 1 they fired 500 missiles, by day 5 they fired 45 by tomorrow they were on track to fire 5.

Thought I saw something where they believe that Iran has less than 100 launchers left intact with many out of range and can't be moved due to exposing them

True. The land size of Iran is only approximately the same size as Spain, France, Belgium, Switzerland, Germany, the Czech Republic, and Austria combined. So not all of Europe, but all of the major Central European countries.

Probably not the kind of country we will be putting boots on the ground to occupy and facilitate regime change. At least not without a draft.

I'm not saying it wasn't all Israeli strikes but our local airbase only has half as many B-1's in house as usual. Heard several leave out about 2:00 in the morning and few more night before around 3:00.

Iran has apparently had some success targeting our most sophisticated radars in the region. Not a great look to let a $30,000 drone take out a basically irreplaceable (in the near term) $300,000,000 system.

Big deal but a better headline.

" The Shahran oil depot is one of Tehran's largest fuel storage and distribution hubs, with nearly 260 million litres of storage capacity across 11 tanks. It serves as a vital node in the capital's urban fuel grid, distributing petrol, diesel, and aviation fuel to several terminals across northern Tehran.

In terms of the impact of attacks on Shahran (and the nearby Shahr-e Rey depot combined), fires at the two depots burned an amount of fuel equivalent to about 6% of Iran's gasoline and diesel consumption during a single peak usage day roughly 19.5 million litres. "

Edit: looks like the bombed this depot last summer too

Saturation will happen on systems if there are more targets than the system can handle. It will be interesting to see how the USA in the future protects these RADARs. Need more layers and more capacity to track targets and target management.

Elon won't do that. He has been on the other side of being censored for "peddling lies", according to his detractors. The UK has called for him to be fined and censored in the past. Be very careful about cheering for censorship, no matter how vile the target.

all I see are massive fires and people claiming they are "oil refineries"

and yet many of them seem to be right in the heart of cities with apartment buildings right nearby.

Disagree. Follow the money. What keeps the IRGC, the formal military and the street thugs that suppress any dissent is being paid. The money stops?

Taking out the oil infrastructure this late in the game is an indication of something different. By leaving the infrastructure alone early was an indication to me that a new regime could get up to speed quickly. If there's a new regime not only do they have to rebuild the country but also their economic system from the oil.

I'm not smart enough to get all the different ways this could go though.

If you don't have a new leader waiting in the wings to step in, you bomb the existing regime into the Stone Age. Iran is going to spend the next generation just trying to keep their people fed. They'll be a failed state. Great, no longer a nuclear threat.

But the preferable option would be to see some faction rise up and destroy the death cult and eliminate it from Iranian society. Destroying strategic economic assets says they don't have anyone waiting in the wings.

Is there any indication they've targeted oil production or export infrastructure? A depot in Tehran and refineries are mostly going to have impacts on their domestic economy, right?

If you see Kharg Island lit up like that, it's a different story.
