Couldn't it simply be knocked off-line fairly easily? I read that the generators operating the pumps there were hit on day 1, and surely there aren't any tankers getting filled there at this point?

I've actually spent some time on Kharg Island. It would be relatively easy to take Kharg - assuming it's lightly manned. But lot's and lots of things to consider if we want to hold it and even more to consider if we want to run it.

It is a joke.

The Saudis are infamous for doing zero work. Instead, they hire Pakistanis to do all hard work.

If you're hoping to replace the regime with one friendlier to the west, don't do anything that hurts the civilian population.

Burn down Tehran and whoever comes to power next may hate us more than the Ayatollahs did.

I don't really want a regime that is "friendly" to the US. I want a regime that is utterly dependent on US goodwill for its long term success. People in the ME understand power, plain and simple.

Those ships will never make it to their planned destination. Their actual destination will be a random spot on the bottom of a deep body of water.

I was walking maybe 50 feet from a C-RAM at night on my way to our SCIF and that thing went off before the incoming alarm went off and to this day that noise scares the **** out of me.

Nice.

As the volume of such attacks has decreased this type of defense is more effective/practical.

Check out the "true size" of Iran. When overlaid with the U.S., it goes from El Paso to Seattle, Bozeman, Montana to Phoenix, AZ.

Lots land for an invading Army to control.

Also the terrain would be incredibly hard to overcome too.

I would assume there will be a big order of Apaches coming soon from a lot of countries to help with drone defense

Given the water issues in Iran, not sure how I feel about that particular target selection.

Does it surprise anyone else that the "target destroyed" is in English each time?

For those wondering, I googled it:
- Iran: ~ 640K sq/miles
- Germany: ~ 140K sq/miles
- Texas: ~ 270K sq/miles

Edit to add the size of the motherland.

Iran has apparently had some success targeting our most sophisticated radars in the region. Not a great look to let a $30,000 drone take out a basically irreplaceable (in the near term) $300,000,000 system.

https://www.twz.com/news-features/iranian-attacks-on-critical-missile-defense-radars-are-a-wake-up-call

Saturation will happen on systems if there are more targets than the system can handle. It will be interesting to see how the USA in the future protects these RADARs. Need more layers and more capacity to track targets and target management.

My guess is, in the future, they'll deploy the LPWS (Land Phalanx Weapon System) to protect assets like that.

It's basically the Phalanx CWIS system that the Navy uses...

How is 'Iran' still launching missiles? Have we not destroyed their infrastructure? Where and what are they launching from?

Are we not able to track the launch origin and destroy the launcher?

Are they launching from mobile trucks that are hidden from US intelligence?

Help me understand like in five years old.

I think a lot of their launchers are concealed in mountain bunkers. They come out, fire the missile, then head back into the mountain bunker.

Iran is huge. It is the same size as the United States East of the Mississippi River. Much of the country is rugged terrain. Their launchers are mobile. The drones can be launched pretty simply with minimal to no fixed infrastructure. They always expected to lose air superiority quickly and planned for it with dispersed and hidden drone/missile assets.

Do you think you could hide a few hundred 18 wheeler sized vehicles somewhere between Florida and Maine? Especially if you hide in civilian areas or mountainous regions?

So the fact that they are still launching things is not surprising at all. The ability for those launchers or launch sites to survive multiple launches is quickly dwindling as evidenced by the rate of fire.

There is a reason why the US said this would take many weeks, not many days.
CaptnCarl
How long do you want to ignore this user?

That makes sense. Are we not able to trace the missiles back to those mountain bunkers?

Who is relaying target information to those mountain bunker launch locations? Russia? Can we not intercept those communications?

I am surprised they military personnel is still hanging on knowing it is only a matter of time. Or do they even realize their days are numbered?

I mentioned this before, but that system uses heavy ammunition that has to fall somewhere. I don't think you're going to want those in populated areas.

I'm sure they still have many "true believers" and figure this is their way to martyrdom.
