Women's sports are not supported globally like here in the USA. That is why you see very few teams in women's sports competing for the gold in sports like Hockey, Softball, Soccer, and basketball. Only a few industrialized nations pour resources into it like we do. So it is easier for the women's national team to be more competitive.

Oh and the men won gold more recently than the women. By 3 days....

I went to quite a few Aeros games back in the day. It was a bummer when they left. I really took them for granted when they were there. But I no longer live in Houston. I live in Bryan so wouldn't be making as many games anyway.

True. I rarely watch any women's sports. Maybe once in a blue moon if one of the Aggie teams is doing well but I'm sorry I just don't find it that interesting. I'm glad others do. I'm glad when they do well.

I was very happy for the volleyball team when they won the national championship. I did attend one of their matches a few years ago and it was much better than I was expecting. In fact, I enjoyed it way more than basketball. I did go to two of the softball playoff games last year and I enjoyed it, but I didn't like it as much as the baseball. But again, I'm glad when they do well.

If I had a daughter in sports though, I'm sure I would take much more interest and of course I would support them. I myself played a little softball and was on a swim team when I was growing, but it was never cutthroat competitive. It was just fun. The softball was just OK something to do, but I loved swimming. Still do.

Now you couldn't pay me to watch the WNBA of course I don't like the NBA anyway.

That's the tough part of being an NHL fan in Houston.

I loosely follow the Stars (and the Ottawa Senators, thanks to my days playing EA Sports hockey). The USA's Brady Tkachuk is the Senators' captain but Ottawa fans hate him now because he didn't tell Trump not to call the locker room. LOL.

I used to be a Phoenix Coyotes fan because they were somewhat close and had a cool logo. But they were sold and relocated to Utah.

You could go Original Six and follow the Red Wings, Bruins or Blackhawks.

But my suggestion would the Tampa Bay Lightning, arguably the NHL's most successful franchise over the past 10 years. Two Stanley Cups, one other finals appearance, and six conference finals.

Thanks. I'll take a look at some of them and decide. I appreciate the information. I think I want to lean more towards some of the northern teams just because it's hockey but interesting about Tampa Bay. I guess it doesn't really matter since they're dispersed all over.

I did some searching and SBNation is owned Vox and is apparently known to be very left leaning, so this opinion piece isn't surprising.

Loved the Aero's when they were in Houston. Kids were young and we did the mini game packs.
