29% of votes counted and his party is down 132 -59. 133 needed for super majority.

He has conceded to his rival. Opposition (right now) looks close to a parliamentary super majority. Congratulations to the presumptive new prime minister, and yes, to Orban for graciously conceding his loss (that's how democracies are supposed to work).

Never cozy up to Russia. Especially a former soviet block nation

Writings been on the wall for some time now. Even more so when Trump of all people decided he needed to intervene. That was the last gasp, as it were. Actually kinda surprised he wanted to weigh in, as he doesn't like backing "losers" per his own words. (saying that objectively btw, genuinely surprised our admin wanted in on the sinking ship)

Corruption, economic malaise, the overt kowtowing to Russians all played a role.

Really shocked JD Vance put this much effort into Orbans campaign.

It shows that the populace has a limited stomach for kleptocracy, so your tax dollars are marginally less likely to be siphoned off to a government crony here, increasing your purchasing power, lowering the debt, and reducing borrowing costs.

Notice who here is cheering for Tisza.

They know it means another Europan country will slide into the same mess as France, Germany, Spain, Ireland, and the UK, which is the goal of the political left across the globe.

Won't be long before Hungry is overrun by Muslims and "Africans."

Is it possible to conclude Orban was a corrupt Russia aligned autocrat and his ouster is on net a move in a positive direction for Hungary without believing they should be more like France, or do we just have binary choices here?

Rapier didn't say they SHOULD be more like France, but (and I really have no clue as to Orban's record - just Euros as of late being gigantic, dripping panochas) that they will, due to an incessant weakness of will. Because....reasons.

Seems a bit false to keep calling the guy an autocrat when he's already conceded the election.

Autocrats tend not to release the reins because thats what actual autocrats do.

No, now the EU can operate much more congruently without a fat, Putin-aligned toad like Orban intentionally throwing wrenches into the operating interests of the rest of the Union. Next thing the EU needs to do is correct for future wanna-be dictators and lessen their ability to stall any kind of progress like Hungary has because the leader is bought by the world's current supervillain, ala Putin.

Putin is about to find out that his allies are slowly disappearing everywhere. Ukrainian war can't stay a meat grinder, it's already lasted longer than the "Great Patriotic War."

His successor will be just as aligned with Russia since Hungary needs Russian oil to keep its economy going. But we may hear less whining about it if they say things that sound pro EU.

This is a victory for the EU, which is bad for Hungary. The EU wanted Orban gone. They are one of the few countries to reject the muslim & African migrants.

You can't cozy up to Russia to the degree he has and expect Hungarians to go along with it for long. Too many bad memories and fears there.

That being said, he is owed an apology by all those who called him an autocrat who wouldn't accept defeat and attempt to use violence to maintain power. Oops.

Hungary is pretty conservative but they also don't want a government too closely aligned with Russia and too currupt or at least too close to becoming more cemented into corruption by long term leadership with no change.

Really a semantic Comparative Politics 102 definition, but one doesn't have to cancel elections and be generalisimo for life for the autocrat label to fit. Control of media, handing out contracts to cronies, etc., are closer to personal rule than Republican rule.

I'm no fan of Orban and he was definitely pro Russia and needed to go.

BUT, an invasion of Muslim trash is far worse than any threat Russia had over Europe.

Yes! Conform! And remove individual countries ability to push back against the central authority in Brussels.

But Orban is the autocrat.

lol. Can't help but expose your ideology even when trying to gloat and project the opposite.

One problem the West is currently facing is that there just aren't many genuinely "good" men who have both the desire to enter politics AND have the stomach to enact the changes needed to preserve the civilization. Most of the people willing to do what is necessary are not particularly pleasant or noble and view the democratic process as a hindrance to the needed changes. They also tend to not be as qualified to actually govern so things like economic and foreign policy are often neglected and mismanaged.

To use our country as an example, daddy Bush had by far the best combination of personal virtue and governing talent/knowledge of any President in the living memory of anyone on this board. Had we followed him down the path he wanted to go down we would be so much better off today in almost every way as a nation. And now look how he is viewed in hindsight by most. Look what it got him.

He probably would have if it wasn't so dominant for his opposition. He spent months peddling conspiracy theories about the integrity of the election before it even happened. Sounds familiar.

Googled it. I'm awaiting the Avengers Doom movie. I'm surprised that Doom isn't orange-skinned with bad hair as an effigy for President Trump.

Yep, Soros spent a **** ton of money on this election, and he owns the new guy.

Just as I said, all the libs here are celebrating because it means Hungry will turn into another EU **** hole. They also see it as a loss for Trump.
