They left out the context of Hegseth explaining it to get people to claim Hegseth is an idiot who thought it was a real bible verse.
Quote:

It is still a misquoted Bible verse from Pulp Fiction that was reappropriated by CSAR guys.

They're not claiming it is an actual quote from the bible, they use it before missions.
Quote:

It is still dumb that a person of Hegseth's stature unironically used this in a prayer.

He was telling a story.

And proceeded to lead them in prayer.

You can word a prayer any way you want with whatever you want.

The point of Russian post, which liberals on this thread fell for, was that Hegseth thought the pulp fiction verse was word for word from the bible

He prayed it.

And? It was a perfectly valid prayer.

And I'll say this again for the 1,000th time. Whether you are left or right, it doesn't matter. If you see a link from RT.com you should immediately call BS on whatever it is. RT isn't biased. It's not alternative media. It's not media at all. It's literally the Russian government. Everything they post is calculated to cause harm and division in your country, whichever side of the aisle you find yourself on.

"THEY call it CSAR 25:17", which I THINK is meant to reflect Ezekial 25:17"

He didn't misquote a damn thing. Do you know what misquoting means?

I did not say that he misquoted it.

I said that the prayer is derived from a Bible verse that was misquoted in Pulp Fiction, which it clearly is.

The non-sarcastic use of "Christo-fascist" still remains one of the top, and most hilarious, key terms for identifying someone with extremely low IQ.

So you are changing your argument because you know that he was not nor ever claimed to be quoting a bible verse? Which was very clear in the video you posted in the OP.

You do know than most prayers are not direct quotes from Bible verses right? If that's not obvious enough, the Sec made it clear he was no quoting the Bible in the video posted.

So what exactly are we supposed to be outraged with here?

Is there evidence that Combat Search and Rescue didn't say this before their mission? I think I could get behind criticizing this if it comes to light they didn't say this before their mission.

If CSAR did say this as a prayer, Do you want us to be mad at CSAR for misquoting scripture for their own ends? If you do, I have some news for you about Abe Lincoln and the Gettysburg Address.

But he didn't actually think it's from the Bible.

That's the difference. The original tweet was taken way way out of context.

Sort of like in My Cousin Vinny when the detective says during the interrogation 'and that's when you shot the clerk.' The kid asks 'huh, I shot the clerk?' and in the trial they read verbatim the defendant said 'i shot the clerk'.

Ah yes, the "Very fine people" omission where people pretend like the person is saying one thing but the actual transcript and full remarks make it very clear what was meant.

But we can't let that get in the way of a good outrage though.

If you'll notice, the "passage" he quotes is CSAR 25:17 and not Ezekiel 25:17.

The prayer, which is an obvious rip on the Pulp Fiction quote (which is also an obvious rip on a quote from the Japanese martial arts movie Bodyguard Kiba) wasn't made by Hegseth. It was made by one of the CSAR rescue teams before the Iranian rescue mission. It's clearly a parody and is something well in line that you'd expect from servicemen.

Should Hegseth be using it in a prayer meeting/sermon? Probably not. But it's not like he doesn't know what it is.

I think you give him way too much credit. Just sayin.

I don't understand how anyone with a brain cell would try to insinuate a Princeton grad is dumb.

I should have read the tweet more thoroughly before posting it. When I first saw the video, it was from a poster that quote retweeted that account. I linked the tweet because it had the video, not because I thought Hegseth misquoted the Bible or to pass along the written content of the tweet.

I think it is dumb that Hegseth quoted something derived from Pulp Fiction in a prayer, but I am not outraged, nor do I think people should be outraged over this.

As I said above, I think something like this plays differently coming from CSAR than it does Hegseth.

This thread provides so much support for why I've begun calling the MAGA movement Doctor Jesus and the Whatabouts.

Check the schedule to see if the tour will be stopping in your town! Tickets too pricey? Just wait til tomorrow.

This probably sounded a lot better in your head. With the emotional fortitude of a 10yr. old girl, many of you epitomize the classic cliche "it's better to be silent and thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt".

I love reading the weak minded, thanks!

I love reading a post the uses a cliche to describe someone as weak minded. Thanks for the irony!

And you're an attorney? I don't think you know what irony means.

From Merriam-Webster, to help you out:

Irony
noun
irony

2a(1): incongruity between the actual result of a sequence of events and the normal or expected result

Keep plugging away. You're doing great work this morning!

Again, you're a poor counselor. There's zero irony in using a well known cliche to point out mental midgetism. Again, there is no irony in using a cliche to point out your lack of mental acumen is showing in your posting. Ironic huh?
