The College Republicans were big proponents of erecting a statue of Matthew Gaines on campus in the '90s.
Are you just offended that we have a statue of a black man on campus?
Are you offended by truth znd academic curiosity?
Do you get brownie points from your felllow social justice keyboard warriors for implyimg that someome is racist, without havimg thr guts to comeout amd make that false accusation?
Hardly a social justice warrior, although I'm unsurprised you'd accuse someone who disagrees with you of that. It's the liberal equivalent of calling someone a nazi.
As for Gaines, you seem really focused on bemoaning the fact that there is a statue of him on campus. Why do you care so much?
Why not a statue of Martin Luther King, Clarence Thomas, or any other person who, like Gaines, has nothing to do with A&M?
If you wanted to add a statue of someone of color, add a statue of Hugh McElroy, first black football player to start a game for A&M. Or Ronnie McDonald, the first black yell leader. Leroy Sterling was the first black student enrolled at A&M. Bill Mahomes, the first black student to complete the four year program in the Corps of Cadets would also be a good option.
At least pick someone who actually has some connection to the school. Not that I think it's necessary to have a statue of the first anything, but if you're going to do it, at least make the statue of an Aggie or someone who has stronger ties than someone who voted for a senate bill that accepted money being offered by the federal government. And if you're going to put a statue of that guy on campus, be sure you know what he looked like. Don't use a photo that you don't even know it's him.
