MIxon is a piece of trash, who doesn't belong in the league imo.

And CJ isn't good, not trash, but not good, definitely not a top 5 qb like he was telling everyone last offseason.

I would say there's a pretty big delta between top 5 and not good. CJ regressed this year and you're correct he's not currently a top 5 QB. But his OL and coaching did him no favors (how many times did we leave Schultz to block a DE knowing damn well he can't or won't do it?). However, I think he's still above average and well over half the league would be more than happy to trade QB places with us. Time will tell if he takes the leap.

Stroud went on tour last offseason telling everyone that he was a top 5 qb. Guess he let that rookie of the year award get to his head.

He even went as far as to say he was better than Josh Allen. It is one thing to be confident, but that is just silly to think he is better than Josh Allen. If his people are telling him that, they need to stop.

Stroud made a post in Instagram in June where he gave his top 5 qbs for the 2023 season. He ranked himself 3rd. That's all he did.

against the Titans, Colts, and Jaguars...he was generally very good with 9 TD passes and only 2 interceptions

but in the eleven other regular season games...11 TD passes vs. 10 interceptions

Confidence is good, but was he so confident that he rested on his laurels thinking he is a top tier qb? He needs to spend a LOT of time this offseason learning how to read a blitz. He is talented, but the pocket presence and awareness is not there at all.

And as mentioned above, he just can't beat good teams and seems to lose to an epically bad team every season.

Stroud's to do list this offseason:

• Pick up on pressure packages and how to handle them
• learn to slide

That last one might actually be top if he starts running more (which he needs to do). It completely changed the games in the playoffs when he started tucking the ball and taking off, there was so much space.

One of the youngest QB's in the league.
Likely played hurt half of the season after getting absolutely wrecked in that Jets game.
CJ Hurts shoulder
Lost most of his good receivers and running back for chunks of the season.
Had no pocket to speak of for most of the season due to G-C-G inability to read/pick up basic stunts.
Pressured on nearly 50% of his throws.
Sacked 52 times in the regular season.
OC did him no favors in pass pro or scheming to adjust vs these issues.

Yes he regressed but let's not pretend like he's a bad qb. Let's see if he and Slowik can grow together (both second year) and solve some of these non-personnel problems.

While CJ did have a sophomore slump I think we need to see what he can do when his isn't running for his life. There were some games this season that he was getting David Carr'ed out there.

I think it was Seth Payne who made this point a day or 2 ago and it made a lot of sense to me. Basically, part of being a good QB who knows how to handle pressure is knowing where pressure is likely going to come from. But our OL were missing assignments so much that pressure was coming from places a QB would never realistically expect it to come from. When that happens, your QB is totally screwed because everything they do is dependent on some assumptions of how a play is likely to unfold.

And I don't say this to totally excuse CJ. But when he has no idea if anyone up front is going to (a) block the right guy or (b) do a good job of it, he's in a real tough spot.

Was just about to bring up that Stroud being coached not to run reminded me of JJ when he was at A&M as well as when they tried to get Johnny to stay in the pocket in 2013.

Not that I disagree with it but I really didn't think that was gonna happen.

Doug Peterson would be my bet.
