At least Sherman got us Manziel and Evans and that alone makes him better than Fraud Fran.

Schottenheimer has been in the league for a while. Has he ever even sniffed another HC job? Why does it seem like we hire people that no one else would consider?

Because Jerry is an idiot?

So Zimmer turned around the D the second half of the season and Jerry jettisons him for the ****ty Bears coach.

Wow Jerry. You never cease to amaze. Going to make sure no one works for him down the line. Maybe after Schotty fails he can hire all the good area high school coaches

Well, we don't have to worry about those first-round playoff exits any longer, because the Cowboys won't even sniff .500.

That's alright, I've abandoned that lousy sunken ship and will pursue fan free agency until settling on another team later. Jerry has finally killed me.

He gave us JFF. Enough said. He'll always be beloved for that. Fran did nothing good, at all.

Isn't girls flag football going to be in the Olympics in 2028? Schotty should be getting fired around then, maybe Jerry can hire whoever coaches France.

This isn't true. He's was a hot name a few years ago under Pete Carroll

Eberflus hire is predictable and can't say I'm mad at it. Assume the OC will have some familiarity with the cowboys as well. Tolzien?

And here i was worried about Kellen Moore. Boy am I stupid.
gigem1223

I like BS better than Moore. Moore isn't ready for an HC position yet imo. A lot of fans are ****ting on the hire but BS has been around the block and has a lot of respect around the league and in the current locker room. Getting Eberflus is a good start.

But let's not kid ourselves, it didn't matter who Jerry hired. Fans would've been outraged either way.

Such a hot name that Carroll fired him and his next job was a demotion

Well, I think Kellen would have been a much worse choice. And sticking with Mike would have also been a mistake.

I have little faith this will work out, but it's not the worst choice.

As I've said, we can only hope Jerry falls backwards into the right guy. Hopefully Schotty is that guy.

He got stale in Seattle and missed his window at taking an HC job. It was reported (forget the year) that he turned down multiple teams to stay in Seattle. They were talking about this in the radio the other day.

Sure. But he was still a sh/ttastic coach and nobody with an IQ above room temperature was excited about him when hired. Dude was awful.

I don't know any Hawk fan that liked his tenure in Seattle. He was very underwhelming as an OC. I'm shocked the cowboys are wasting time with this guy. It doesn't make sense. There is no way to sugar coat this hire. Maybe Jerry is tanking on purpose to get the next Aikman.

Dallas trying to put together a staff for a good tank. Maybe David Culley could be the OC and Lovie Smith special teams? A year or two in fourth place gets you a lot of good players if you draft well. I can't remember who the GM is but …nevermind.

Dak sounds like the de facto GM right now. I know the joke is Jerruh is running things but from all accounts everything that's being done is to placate that Titanic sized boat anchor at QB

Such a shortsighted take. Sherm recruited the offense that turned into the best offense we've ever had, with 4 starting olinemen that were drafted, a HOF receiver, and a Heisman winning QB. 2011 was so ****ing disappointing with all of our blown leads, but to actually watch the games and see what was turned over to sumlin, compared to what sherm got from Fran, and think sherm was worse than Fran is borderline ignorant.

Sorry, I know this isn't on topic, but I just hate this "gotcha" **** self loathing Aggies love to pull with sherm and Fran.

Troy was on the Ticket this week and told the story of how when the Cowboys hired Chan Gailey, he came in and completely changed their offense, and all the players hated it. It messed up Troy's dropbacks and timing with the receivers and really set the offense back.

Normally a story like this from almost 30 years ago wouldn't be relevant to a coaching search (nor should it), but since Jerry is still involved, there's a good chance he's placing an outsized emphasis on continuity of offensive scheme above everything else that a head coach should do based on this experience. Never mind stopping to ask if McCarthy's offense is actually worth running; Dak knows how to run it, so that's what they're gonna stick with.

So "here we go" with another 3-5 years of mediocrity. Thanks, Jerry.

Most valuable franchise in sports and this is who you land on? Enjoy looking up at the Skins and Eagles for the next few years because nothing done in this hiring suggests you got better.

Again I couldn't care less one way or the other on BS, but I do think the Eberflus d coordinator hire is a good one. He was in over his skis with the bears as a HC, but he's been a really good d coordinator in the league and I think he'll stick around a bit. Some guys are just made to be a #2, and Eberflus is one of them.

Honestly I think their options were limited to begin with. The reality of the situation is that quality coaching candidates want nothing to do with the dysfunctional ownership of the Jones family and I dont blame them. Maybe he'll surprise us. Who knows

This also signals that Dak has more influence in the building than we know. I guarantee this is who he wanted

Of course they were limited. The job doesn't pay the big bucks, doesn't care about culture, ownership undercuts the coach too often, management is "value minded" (cash poor) when it comes to free agency and is not serious about building a winner, ownership gets to pick assistant coaches and meddles in coaching/football.

They are not a serious football organization.

Anyone else heard contract details? I heard 4 years 600k per year, which is so ridiculous it's hard to believe

No way it's that low. There's probably some high school coaches that make that.

Agreed on being too low. It's probably $5 million per year.

yeah, 4-6 per year. Coordinators will probably cost more than usual. Nobody wants to be on a sinking ship unless there's gold on it.

The Cowboys paid Mcarthy $8M per year and Garett $6M per year. They're not cash poor. I believe they've had this planned for a while and have kept it from leaking. Would explain the weak choices HCs to interview. My guess is they've been looking at assistants with BS.

I've seen 4-8 million from a lot of different sources. I think it started at 4 and escalated each year.
