When you guys put a wall around a settlement, do you drop foundations first to make sure to get them completely level? Or just spam uneven walls everywhere?

I used the concrete foundation from Wood - Floors section to make giant concrete walls to fill in gaps in the Castle. That damn thing is impenetrable now

I did the same thing!

I hilt an entire wall around sanctuary hills. Benefit is when attackers spawn outside they can only get in through the front gate, which is conveniently where I put 6 turrets, two guard posts, and a spotlight. So yes besides aesthetics they do serve a purpose. It takes a long time to do it but it's well worth it in my opinion.

How do you establish a supply line between two places? I have local leader rank two but have never seen an option.

Go into workshop mode, select a settler and you get the option to make a supply line to another settlement. Once you tell him to go from Sanctuary to the Castle, for instance, you can then see the supply lines in your Pup Boy.

Yep. It's a game changer. I have supply lines between all my settlements so I have access to all my resources for upgrading armor and weapons. I haven't really played much of the story line at all, just been mainly doing minutemen missions.

Appreciate the help guys. So basically you are committing one person from each settlement to connecting the supply lines and they can't harvest crops or man guard posts. Not a big deal but I only have 9 people at the castle right now.

Not one person from each settlement (I.e. Not 2 people per supply line) if you take a settler from sanctuary and assign him to a trade route with Abernathy Farms that supply line is functioning.

You can then assign a settler from Sanctuary to a supply line with Tenpines and all 3 settlements will be connected and share resources. You don't have to have Abernathy directly Tenpines as long as they are in a network that eventually connects it is good.

Did you know you can send settlers to other settlements? In build mode, click on them and choose "Move" then pick which settlement you want to send them to.

I didn't figure this out until about lvl 23 or so? For some reason I kept getting 16 folks jammed packed in to tiny little hangman's alley.

Now I just use that as a recruiting post and send all those city folk out to the suburbs. My settlements are much more balanced since figuring that out.

Ah ok, good to know. Yeah I knew you could send people out. I had probably 9 people at sunshine riding coop or whatever it's called from building a recruitment antennae and then forgetting about it, happiness level there was like 3% haha. I sent all of them to either sanctuary or the castle as those are pretty much the only two I plan on putting time into. I may link some settlements that have a lot of scrap or resources just to build more stuff but I'm not planning on fully developing 4 or 5 settlements.

I guess if someone was going to beta test this, it may as well have been Hank McCoy.

I seriously underestimated the value of a good combat armor in this game. I always opted to use jumpsuits with perks in order to keep my weight low and stay fast. Adding combat armor doesn't hurt your speed all that much and when you add pockets to the armor it more than makes up for the lost weight capacity.

It's easily bumped the game down a level in difficulty
spieg12

Yep. There is no reason to use anything other than deep pocketed on armor pieces. Gives +10 carrying capacity with each piece and you can have 5 pieces with that mod for +50 carrying capacity. Combine that with +50 from strong back and +100 from that lone wanderer perk and having dogmeat carry more with that companion perk means no pit stops for days. Add power armor with the leg mods to carry more stuff and it goes even higher. My character at 6 strength can carry 480 with no companion or with dogmeat. Power armor puts it over 500.

If you go to the armor workbench you can add a mod called pocketed or one called deep pocketed. The first adds +5 carrying capacity and the second adds +10.

Working on good ways to display my power armor. My three sets plus the full X-01 set I'm currently rocking. Just came across another full T-51 set I need to put together and display but need another power armor frame to put them on.

I was thinking something very Ironmanish for mine. Big room with them all lined up around the wall.

Well I made an effort to make a fortress tonight but next thing I knew I maxed out the settlement and couldn't build anything more. Dammit, going to try again on another settlement.

I hate that they max them out! Plus you can only have like 20 settlers. That's stupid!!

I found www.fallout4map.com today and wasted too much time on it. Even when I'm not playing this game is eating my life.

There's a quarry in the NE part of the map that has a Raider in power armor. The whole place re-spawns every few days. Clear the place out, pickpocket the fusion core, and you got yourself a free frame.

Also, there's a few mods out there that get rid of the settlement limit. I'm going to try to turn the Drive-In into my super-settlement. It seems to have the highest elevation ceiling. I was able to build a 9 story high-rise before I hit the top.

I believe that Abernathy farms has like a 20 story limit , I think because it has a giant electrical tower in it.

I connected sanctuary with castle, everything is shared. Then I connected castle with red rocket, but the supplies are not shared?

Does it need to come directly from the main source of supplies?

It doesn't work immediately. Fast travel away and do something and then come back.

I just connect sanctuary to everyone. Either send one from sanctuary or send one from another settlement back to sanctuary.

That way, it makes it easier to see where my connections are.

In the BADTFL regional office, on one of the computers, is a prisoner listing for Opie Hurst.

You won't see them if you open up the workbench. They'll only show up when you go to build an item.

Lately I've been getting spammed with settlement missions. What drives me nuts is that if you don't get to them soon enough, they auto-fail. I've spent more time running around settlements than I have doing anything else.

Not sure if it's a bug or not, but I went to one of my settlements that needed defending. It previously had about 4 or so occupants. When fast-travel to it, there are ~30 brand new settlers just waiting at my gate. One runs up asking for help with mutants. About 15 seconds later, a group of super mutants and hounds rushes the compound. 3 mini-guns, 2 suicides, and 5 hounds. Got em down, but then had to figure out the logistics of what to do with the rest of the people.

Got it all straightened out and went to go to another mission. When I get to the location, I get a pop up saying "The Castle defense failed". I check the rest of my missions and The Castle, Coup Manor, and Jamaica Plain needed defending. Every one was group of super mutants.
