Thanks! Thought that might be the case. Saw one in our yard about a week ago. I knew then because it puffed its head up. Don't see many snakes so not that familiar.

Not a snake, but this fella was making one heck of a racket...relocated across the fence, closer to the creek so we can finish our show....

& hopefully he finds a date tonight..

Too bad he doesn't know how to hold snakes.
I know a lot about a little, and a little about a lot.

Indigos are opportunistic predators, but an adult housecat is not something they would try to tackle. Maybe a kitten... maybe but they are not really their preferred prey. They prefer to eat other snakes, birds, lizards, and mice/rabbits.

Looked familiar! My pics from a couple pages back were from the trail in the park. Haven't seen many cottonmouths. Most of the time it's a BBWS (or gator, hog, possum, or raccoons). I did see a bobcat a few months back. That was cool!

I run back there every weekend. I've seen my fair share of BBWS, alligators and plenty of hogs!

Ratsnake. Their taxonomy got wacky the last few years but I and many nerds like me still call them black ratsnakes in that part of the world.

Nope, round eyes, vertical lines under chin. That and out of a few hundred snakes I've seen in the neighborhood I've never seen a moccasin.

Man I know that bridge and the one on Park Pine all too well. I group up in that area and started my snake catching days all along Mason creek down into Barker all the way to Buffalo Bayou. Interesting thing was I never saw an Alligator despite looking for them regularly. They've really rebounded and are common almost everywhere now in Katy.

After all these years I finally found one in the city park I walk at and finally get to make a post on this thread Instead of just browsing. Big ol' Rat Snake.
