Weather is going to get ugly in Blount County, Tennessee on Saturday. I think it's going to be sleet/freezing rain. Wish it was snow but that is going to be north of here. Ugh.

If you need anything, let me know. We should be fine; I've got heaters for the house if power goes out.

Thank you Zoo.

We got the generator gassed up and running. Do you need firewood? We have a bunch if you need some.

Just showed around an inch of ice and definite power outages for Monticello. Not sure of the travel decisions but the Boll Weevils should probably evacuate.

Georgia checking in. Looks like where I am will miss the worst but the wood stove is stocked, got plenty of gas for the generator, and backup supplies.

Also went to see mom in hospice (sister's house) because I may not be able to this weekend. Glad I did because they needed help getting their generator and other stuff up and running. Hope she lives through the weekend but if not, today was a good day.

Drove from Llano to Houston yesterday. The Austin/ hill country area had de-ice out on Hwy 29 , 183, 290 already. Will the coming rain wash it off?

Were they expecting cold temperatures before the rain fell?

TexDot was putting that liquid brine on all lanes of Interstate 10 yesterday between Junction and Kerrville. My
TexDot buddy (retired) was shaking his head this morning with all the rain coming first, even thunderstorms later today and early tonight. As he said when working the roads in these conditions it will be "headlights-tail lights" in rapid succession.

I was watching the news last night and they were showing txdot putting out the brine solution and I wondered the exact same thing about rain washing the brine solution away. Without knowing much about it I assumed txdot felt like they had to show they are trying to do something even if its for not. As others have said it seems like its going to be a waste of money and resources.

same in Houston, they had traffic backed up on the beltway going towards 59 from I10. looks like they sprayed that liquid on all the major roads already

Enjoy it while you can, Rockport will get pretty cold by Rockport standards.

Anyone else in the San Antonio area worried about the impacts? The latest forecast has freezing rain arriving by 3 pm Saturday. On top of this, CPS is a garbage utility, and I have no confidence that their transmission and distribution lines will survive even the smallest ice buildup.

I work for a company that is very energy intensive. We are one of if not the biggest customer on CPS's system. One of our customers reached out to me today and asked if CPS had provided any information on their preparedness or plans. Nope. I had to call 2 different folks to get this generic message to provide to our customer:

Strong Cold Front
This is a message from CPS Energy.

We are preparing for a strong cold front beginning Friday evening and continuing through Tuesday. We are expecting freezing temperatures, isolated thunderstorms, freezing rain, and elevated wind gusts. Severe weather can challenge the reliability of your power. Ice accumulation on trees and power lines can cause downed wires, so we remind everyone not to approach them and to treat them as if they are live. Our crews are on standby to respond safely should outages occur, and we ask for your patience as we work in possibly dangerous driving and working conditions. We'd like to encourage you to stay tuned to local weather reporting for the most up-to-date conditions.
Stay Safe

Visit http://cpsenergy.com/outagecenter for more information.
Review our winter preparedness safety tips page at: https://www.cpsenergy.com/en/about-us/energy-safety-and-preparedness/winter-safety.html.
Contact your Account Manager in the event of an outage.

Just LOL bad compared to other utilities that I work with across Texas. I have zero confidence in them. Good luck, if you live on the North side outside loop 1604. You won't see them until the ice has thawed.

Damn. T&P! My brother lives in that area also, so I have told him he is screwed. In fairness to CPS, they have to dispatch their crews safely.

Getting some rain today, with even more tomorrow. Might have to break out the long pants tomorrow when we go to town (Tucson). Might even have to put on a windbreaker. Oh well -- could be worse....

Thankfully it shouldn't be as bad as '21 when we were without power for almost 80 hours with a 2 month old in the house. That sucked pretty hard.

Have a generator this time, plus gas fireplace, etc.

We will probably lose power at some point for a bit just due to lots of trees around the area and above ground powerlines, but whatever.
