While I do think you've earned some trust, from the time you first mentioned it people here have been pretty clear on how they feel about it.

Macy's is one of the locations being considered, based on the document KBTX posted.

Macy's would need a lot of renovation work. You need a venue that can seat at least 1000 people and still have break-out rooms. Add to this a vender ballroom, full kitchen, AV facilities etc...

You might as well build a center that is designed for a convention... Which I do not support.

Howdy,

This will be the very first meeting of your elected officials with a private sector group. Unlike the data center in every way, there has been no formal discussion with this group before now to my knowledge. This is not an up or down contract vote with only 5 business days notice either. This is the very first meeting. We will simply hear a presentation and talk it out, then decide whether to have further discussion, or not. The bosses are in from the beginning on this one.

I hope that's fair. Have a wonderful evening.

Respectfully,

Yancy '95

You know that this is not a cut and dry issue and there are many who oppose the idea. There has been a mile long thread on TexAgs previously discussion this issue. By giving short notice and scheduling the meeting at 3pm this just looks bad. The entire town was angry just a few weeks ago; in large part because of the short notice given. I take this as the council being completely unaware of the pulse of the people or they just don't care. With how long it takes to plan and build a big event center, this could have been a Zoom meeting for just an introduction; or rescheduled to give residents more time. Even if it is just for the optics coming off the data center ordeal. If this is unintentional, you are starting off on teh wrong foot because of what happened a few weeks ago.

This is why I feel this way: The city already has a terrible track record of spending money. That's why people still bring up Macy's. It's about trust more than the actual financial transaction. And every day the city owns it, we lose money, and the city leaders lose credibility. Everyone says Macy's didn't happen on my watch; however, building something new is apparently more important than fixing those kinds of issues.

As a sitting councilman you have been talking about having the city build an events center for months. Everyone in the area knows it. Less than a month ago we get a surprise note from you about the proposed data center. Everyone was extremely upset at the short notice given for such a big project.

I (along with many others) was shocked at the data center meeting by the questions the council was asking the potential developer. They were extremely basic questions such as "How loud is the facility"? After almost a year of being under an NDA the council didn't know the basic details of the operation…. Or they put on a good act.

One good gesture goes a long way but doesn't solve the issue. It takes some work to get out of a hole and the councils credibility is in a hole.

If there has not been any formal discussion and this is just a presentation; then why begin the formal process in this way. It hasn't even been a month since the datacenter meeting. The council has to know the residents of College Station are still a bit raw from the whole datacenter thing. Why would the council want to start a project discussion on short notice with even a remote chance this project could look sketchy.

Many of us on this forum have been talking about trust being the biggest issue with the city council. During the datacenter meeting, I also heard the word 'trust" being use a lot.

As I have said many times before. If we cannot trust our council to do the little things right, how can we expect them to take carte of the big stuff. And this is another little thing being messed up.

They should have just announced that today is the presentation from the consultant and scheduled a few future meetings for public comment. Announce the public comment meetings at the same time they announced the presentation. This gives the public time to learn from the initial presentation and give more detailed comments than just I am for or against this idea.

Bob said above that it not on city property. So I guess its private property at University and Tarrow, Texas, or College.

That's essentially what is going to happen. Not sure how to weave a forecast of future meetings into a legal notice for the initial meeting, but yes that's a good idea in my opinion- and how it will actually play out this time.

Midtown was also on the list from the group that did this. Although it doesn't meet any of the criteria (close to hotels and restaurants, walkable, etc.). Hopefully they don't continue to push for Midtown for this.

Lots of talk about sports venues and arenas. Is A&M interested in this as a replacement for Reed? This presentation is pretty lacking.

Reed is kinda smaller as far as seating capacity goes. Roughly 13k capacity vs Tenn at 21.5k, or Kentucky at 20.5k

It seems like most of the conversation now is about it being the new home of Aggie basketball and volleyball. It is on A&M property.

A replacement for Reed is definitely needed. Figuring out a way to make it a multipurpose center makes sense and the location could have benefits for both cities, the county, and of course TAMU. I am skeptical how they are all going to work together on a large project like this.

They need a large corporate partner with Aggie ties. Maybe Roku wants their name on a building.

They own the land...doesn't that qualify as their "foot print"?

or are you speaking metaphorically?

It also would surprise me if A&M wouldnt be exited about the land it could open up by deleting reed and going vertical on all that land where Reed sits.

Think bigger picture. A&M athletics knows Reed is a blah atmosphere, partly because of fans, but also the building itself. If they can defer the costs to the city, get new BB facilities, while also freeing up a valuable chunk of land on west campus that is 80% surface parking....they might be all for it. Parking lots are such a huge waste of space, and if they can get all of that land back....

I think they have probably run out of resources on Buc-ee's with the Aplin Center.

Yancy needs to be in the ear of Anthony Wood (Roku founder and CEO). Roku is a $15 billion company and just started a streaming service called Howdy. Should go all in on A&M.
