We were among only a few restaurants in town cooking meats at temperatures less than 300 degrees to avoid carcinogens, but in the end not enough people really cared," Wynne said in a statement. "Lesson learned the hard way."

I'd love to see their business plan, pitch, and investors. People with funny money.

Capitol Pub on Henderson is closing

Generic question: what happens to all the furnishings when a place like that closes? I'm trying to get in touch with a manager/owner about buying one of the tables outside. It's where my fiance and I met and later got engaged. Figure if they're just going to auction it or something they might be just as happy to sell it to me.

They will sell it other establishments or use them at other locations. Go to Dubliner today and ask the owners.

That was a question I had for when they closed up Kelly's in downtown plano. That place had a ton of cool stuff in it for the longest time, but I think they just stored it to open up the Kelly's in Frisco (Allen was already open).

Pretty much this... since it is an amicable closing (i.e.not getting locked out for lack of paying rent) they should have the option to vacate and take all non-affixed FF&E. What they choose to do with it from there is on them, but I'd be surprised if much, if any, of the furniture is re-used in their existing or future establishments.

They are mixing Dubliner and Capitol styles for their new bar at Plano Rd and NWH, Lochland's Food and Spirits.

Remember when Angelos closed. That was quite a shock to the neighborhood. That Gingerman space there was weird. Not welcoming at all.

The Loon (RIP the Original) is relocating. (link)

I haven't been there in quite some time, and definitely not since it was sold by Cliff to the lady who owns it now.

Quote:

The Loon, which has been hanging around McKinney Avenue for more than 25 years, will move from its current address at 3403 McKinney Ave. to a larger space.

Fortunately, the new space is hardly a block away: It'll open in a building at 3028 N. Hall St., just behind Breadwinners, that was most recently occupied by Mimi's Pizza.

Any idea when Capitol Pub is closing? Was there last week and looked busy,

I think I read they are closing at the end of the year. Seems like more closures than usual by people just pulling the plug at the end of a lease. No stats for that, just my impression given what I've read about the increases in rents in DE, Lowest Greenville, and Henderson

Apparently HQ Prime (the old Red Hot and Blue) is closing. They poured a lot of money into revamping it too. I've been to several events in the beer garden and thought it was nice, but it never made it to the lunch/dinner rotation...

Food was average at best. Build out was very nice and smartly done but they went cheap on the product quality of food.
That's a strange center. A lot of money and new concepts but most are mediocre which sadly is the food scene in Dallas.

Agree. I mainly had party trays there, which is low bar stuff, but did have BBQ one time and it was Spring Creek level at Lockhart prices. Beer selection was on point though.

Seems like you have a healthy disdain for food in Dallas. I think we're pretty solid and getting better, and the mainstream food press seems to agree with me. https://www.bonappetit.com/story/dallas-texas-city-of-the-year-2019

There are plenty of great spots in Dallas however, I found some of the most hyped places are all smoke and mirror. Plus the short cuts of using frozen items in order to save on labor. I've spent a good portion of my career in the F&B scene so I've seen it first hand. Prior to that I was in Chicago and nyc so I've seen a true food city close up from the kitchens. A lot of sizzle here. I don't want to be pretentious, I've seen the vast differences straight from the kitchens and dining rooms

New restaurant coming to White Rock Center on Buckner! This is corner suite along Buckner Blvd, next door to El Vecino.

Quote:

They envision BarNone as a bar first with friendly service, signature drinks, beer, wine, and sports to watch.

But there will be food: all-American fare, including a burger made with meat ground in-house, plus other sandwiches and family favorites that include clams Casino, wings, Todd's Sunday gravy, and Manhattan clam chowder.

Local diners may recognize Todd as a career restaurateur with 31 years food and beverage experience, including his role as managing partner of Angry Dog for 20 years. He is also the former co-founder, president, and CEO of Dallas Grilled Cheese Company.

Haven't been to district 9. Alphonso's is very good, Detroit style pizza is damn good. El Vecino is really good too. Good food neighborhood along with the spots on Peavy.

In looking at pics from Alfonso's, I'm not seeing something that looks like Detroit-style pizza. Is there some place in Dallas to get Detroit-style pizza? It's a dragon I've been chasing for years
