some cities are more strict than others but if they happen to drive by and its raining or its freezing and you're running your system they will give you a warning and if it happens again then a ticket. Not to mention the old man/woman that walks the neighborhood early morning will turn you in.

Keep your GD hands out of my sprinkler box you fascist!

Just kidding. I really do need to upgrade my system, but I don't feel like spending the money since my archaic system still works.

Actually had a sensor at our previous house but I could never tell if it actually worked. Was never around to see it prove itself.

Our sprinklers have a rain sensor and it doesn't do jack ***** I usually find out I forgot to turn them back on when the yard looks like Yuma

Not a totally benign storm apparently. Think this happened today from the saturation. Neighbors house. Lucky it did fall on us.

How has no one mentioned a smart rain controller like Rachio?

Have never had a single issue. Never have to think about it skipping due to rain.

I've been on Rachio for awhile, and I've been frustrated. Oftentimes I'll get the Rain Skip notification but the sprinklers still run. I've taken to setting manual skips in those situations.

None of the 5 weather stations reported to my Hydrawise controller this morning so mine were going to run but I suspended it from bed right before they started.

How do you know it's working though unless you are at home and watching it? That was always my issue with my old sensor. Unless I did some kind of in depth water usage analysis tracking my water bill (which I never did because I shouldn't have to) I had no way of knowing if it worked or not.

The Hunter Hydrawise has a reports tab showing the watering schedule and if it ran or not and why it did not run if it didn't (like high weekly rainfall totals for instance). I also have a flow meter.

I get an email from Rachio every time it skips.

Would also recommend Rachio Iro controllers.

I've had one for years and I forget it's there. It rain skips, freeze skips and will wind skip so you don't water the road or your neighbor's yard. It keys off of official weather stations close to your home.

Just curious, do you use the default skip settings?

Don't water when it rains 0.125" or more
Don't water when the temp is 32 or below
Don't water when the wind is 20mph or more

I usually water on my scheduled day unless there is an actual downpour. I skipped this morning because it got plenty Tues-Wed.

Even when it rains, it normally doesn't rain enough.

Anecdotally, I have not watered my yard once this year. The scattered rains we have received has kept the bermuda green, full, & keeping out weeds.

Is it the best yard on the block? No. But it looks healthy & is in good shape overall.

I have only watered a handful of times and a few of those were mainly due to some new plants / flowers and just kept me from hand-watering....not sure how we are doing YTD and in drought analysis but seems to have been positive....also, only had to top off my pool once or twice so far....

I have new sod that was planted in the winter that has been struggling to take hold in some places so I am watering more than I normally would. I overrode the default skip parameters to be 0.25" of rain, 34 degrees, and 25mph wind.

The other thing I love about the Rachio is the ability to tell it to finish the watering cycle at sunrise so it automatically accounts for the changing daylight hours and my total length of watering and starts at the appropriate time for that day.

I might have lowered the rain setting. I don't think I've changed the others.

Not sure who you are. But after some research I'm buying one of these.

Thanks Texag guy.

Been raining hard for 2.5 hours here in prosper. Windy as hell and pouring when it first came through.

Can't ever go back to sleep.

Checked the lake levels around the state… statewide, lakes are ~78% full.

All major DFW lakes are 100% full. Lavon, Arlington, Lewisville, Ray Roberts, Ray Hubbard, grapevine, Texoma, Cedar Creek, Mineral Wells. Bridgeport is almost full as is Tawakoni.

Probably one of the windiest storm I've ever seen. Northing was safe in my backyard watching that wind knock over everything.
