I honestly don't know how the city folk deal with it every day. Every time I drive in to Houston I am reminded of how much happier daily life is not having to deal with the insane traffic. It's so stressful and aggravating. Very glad we moved away and to a more rural setting.
Yes, Houston traffic is annoying, but I guess I'm used to it.
When visiting family in a rural setting, I can't imagine having to drive 20 minutes to go grocery shopping, and that's at super walmart or super 1, there's no fancy HEB anywhere close to them. Don't get me started on the lack of foods from India.... (kdding, but I couldn't go without Asian food)
Edit: I have a reverse commute, I see the folks heading into the city from Katy every morning and I can't imagine doing that.
But it's not just during rush hour, it's all the time. Before we moved I mentioned to someone the area I lived in in Houston didn't have much traffic, and they said that it's not that, it's that I just don't notice it.
I have to say that I'm not sure that anyone has ever said anything more true to me in my life. Every time I go back to that part of town, it's absolutely miserable with traffic that I only notice now that I don't have to deal with it daily.
Hell, I have always joked that I went to sea simply because I didn't want to deal with traffic or commutes, so maybe it just grates on my nerves more than the average person, but driving in it is truly a miserable soul sucking experience. Automated cars can't get here fast enough.
