Fort Griffin Merchandise aka The Beehive in Albany has some of the best steak you will ever eat. It is USDA Prime beef that's aged and then cooked to perfection over mesquite. Throw in their homemade bread and small but unique salad bar, and it can't be beat. You can't go wrong with either the ribeye or filet mignon. They know how to cook them right too. If you tell them medium rare (my personal preference), it will be done to perfection.

Thursday night is all you can eat shrimp night, and the shrimp are huge. The guys who own the place send a truck to D/FW airport each week to pick up the shrimp and oysters that have been flown in from the Gulf of Mexico. They serve the shrimp either boiled in a spicy cajun seasoning, or fried in coconut batter. They sometimes have boiled crawfish to go with the shrimp.

On Friday and Saturday nights they have prime rib that has been cooked over mesquite and then sliced.

On Thursday through Saturday nights during hunting season, you had better be there when the doors open at 6:00 or you might have to wait for 2 or 3 hours to get a table.

Armentas is good as is Chilango's.

For good home cooking Kenny Blanek's Crossroads or Dun Bar East is good as well.

Toni runs the Charcoal Houses in Angelo. Mmmm, do I miss her steak fingers....

Her dad owned the original one on the corner of Garfield and Sherwood Way back in the day. When I would hit town on a weekend off during school, the now Mrs. EMc77 and I would hit there for a #9,onion rings and a cherry Limeade.

Will be in Angelo Saturday. Might just have to go by there......

awh- When China Garden was opened in the late 70's and wasn't the buffet deal it now is, it was good. The first Chinese in Angelo was in about 1968 or 69 in the old Town House Hotel downtown. Caused quite a commotion!

Armenta's is good, but Chilangos is my normal choice. Great Chile Rellanos...

But since they don't understand what a real West Texas "Mexican Dinner" is in TN, I am thinking that is my TexMex choice this weekend!

For no other reason, than I had lunch there and feel that all of you should share in the wonderfulness that we enjoyed,

Mary's in Strawn still has the best chicken fried steak in all the world. Period, end of story.

In El Taco, Leo's/Avilas on N. Mesa on the west side of town. It's been about 12 years since I've been back, so who knows if these places still exist, but if they do, I recommend.

There's a place called Lucy's (Kings X) on N. Mesa out by Kern place. It was pretty good for mexican food as well.

Great American Land and Cattle company and Cattlemans steak house are really good steak places as well.

Sorry to ask a dumb question, but where is Armenta's in San Angelo? I live there & have never heard of it!(Just so you don't think I'm lazy, I tried looking up Armenta's online & couldn't find it.)

Thanks

I have to go with Duetchlanders Garden Catfish in Buffalo Gap. Not many people still call Duetchlanders Garden, most just call it the catfish place. Best fried Catfish anywhere, been ther for 40 years or so.
