Were you one of the guys that peed in the pool after our wedding? And I'm not talking about peeing while swimming (everyone does that).

Haha, no, definitely didn't do that! When did y'all get married? I graduated from there in '05, so I may not even have known you or your wife.

My wife graduated from MHS in 2000. Her dad is a banker, her mom is a librarian, and they live on Leon.

I graduated from Midland High in '98.

Yes, I do know your wife and her parents! Her parents go to the same church as mine. Y'all may have done a gift registry at my mother's store, Inspirations.

Mrs. OleRock said to tell you she said hello.

I never got the impression you were a girl.

Edit: We did get several things from Inspirations. Cool store!

Haven't read every entry but I haven't seen any mention of the chicken fried steak @ the Sutton County Steakhouse on Sonora. Other than my wife's it's the best I've had ! Well the Bishop Street Grill's in Dallas was as good but that ain't west Texas.

Re-confirmed this past weekend that Perrini's in Buffalo Gap remains one of the great treasures of Texas.

Great steaks.
One of a kind atmosphere.
Cold Beer.

You better visit quick though because it just made it No. 3 on some Texas Monthly list with those high dollar joints like Pappa's Bros and others.

If you are not careful, people outside of Texas will start flocking there and ruin the whole thing.

never been to Cattleman's but compare websites

http://www.cattlemanssteakhouse.com

http://periniranch.com/steakhouse_dinner.php

I'll vouch for Perini being just exactly like whats pictured on the website, as far as food and menu and surroundings.

so unless Cattleman's website misrepresents them and they really aren't just a large K-Bob's tourist trap even with excellent steaks, there's too much difference between the two. I'm sure Cattleman's is a great place and does wonderful business, I'm not saying they shouldn't, but Perini's is just special.

Albany isn't "West Texas"? It is only 15 miles east of Abilene, which I doubt seriously anyone would deny "West Texas" status. And it is further west than Strawn, Brownwood, Stephenville...

I'm from Albany and I'll stand by my claim of "West Texas" roots until I die.
Cowtown Red

Strawn, Brownwood, and Sville are all in East Texas!

Just got back to Lubbock from Chilifest and got to stop by Perinis on the way through Abilene. Just as good as advertised. Great steaks.

Ben's Spanish Inn in Pecos. I have been gone from Pecos for 40 years and Ben's has been closed for most of that but in the 1960's there was no better tex mex anywhere.

Sherman's not back in College Station for his third tour just to put out a fire. He's here to start one.

Raised in Fort Stockton and loved when we played at Pecos in football when I was little. Parents took me to Ben's Spanish Inn - green enchiladas were greatness.

Ben's chile rellenos were a thing of wonder. Has anyone noticed that it's darned near impossible to get good green beef enchiladas anymore? Stuck here in East Texas, everyone seems to like the red chili sauce. Awful.

Sheik that was pretty weak to compare the restaurants by the websites. I've been to both and comparing the food I've had (filets and rib eyes) Cattleman's is better.

well Fred, good for you
and Cattleman's was probably cheaper too

you are correct, websites should not be the final standard by which to judge anything. But like I said in my original post, even with awesome steaks, Cattleman's website made them look like a large tourist trap K-Bob's.

Perini's is just a medium small size tourist trap beer joint steakhouse...........

I've enjoyed visiting both Cattleman's in El Paso and Perrini's in Abilene.

Perrini's has the clear edge in my opinion and the K-Bob's comparison is on target as to Cattleman's.

I was very unimpressed with both the food and the atmosphere at Cattleman's.

By the way, if Albany (and Abilene for that matter) are not in West Texas then I need some more edumacating.

Lubbock on the other hand is known to be in the panhandle and clearly does not qualify as West Texas............
