I used to love me some Garibaldis (sp?) on 42nd and Andrews highway I beleive. Would go there at lunch in high school and feast on a combo burrito and some nachos. Also, the man that ran it was so nice. If you were a little short on money he would always spot us some. Great place.

I forgot about Manuels in Midland on Rankin Highway we would stop there in the mornings since it was on the way to school plus it kept the cops busy both in the morning and at lunch time.

Steak fingers, not chicken strips. They have both, but you gotta get the steak fingers.

I'll agree with Leo's in El Paso. That place was good, but the place that replaced Leo's (I think it was called Avilas) wasn't bad either.

Have any fellow El Pasoans ever eaten at Bill Parks bbq? That place was great. It was right off of I-10 right by the train station. It closed down but I used to love that place.

There was a place in Marfa, I believe it was called Mike's. All I remember is the curbside service. Just pull up and honk the horn, someone one would come out and take your order. Served some of the best burgers with Coke in a bottle.

We used to spend days at the park in Balmorhea and the best food was whatever we could afford at the gas station before heading home for the day

My faves-

El Paso: Chico's Tacos, The Italian Kitchen, Great American Land and Cattle Company on the east side

Midland: El Burrito, Michael's, KD's, Murray's

Odessa: TACO VILLA, White House, Ajuua's

Other: Fermin's in Monahans, Buck's in Sweetwater, The Bird in Crane (is that even still there?), Buddy's in Andrews

For breakfast, Bread and Breakfast in Alpine is the best.

By the way, agdoc2001, if you're a medical doctor and like to read, I highly recommend a memoir by Abraham Verghese called "The Tennis Partner." It's about his time as a doctor a few years ago in El Paso.

Going to Midland to see Abilene High play Midland and then Saturday to Lubbock to BTHO tech. Saturday I'll stop at Buddy's in Andrews for the best steak fingers in Texas.

Ever tried Quintanas in Wickett (15 miles west of Monahans). Best and cheapest authentic mexican food in a 100 mile radius.

Leo's has nothing on La Hacienda.

I remember being a little girl and sitting out on the porch and hearing the dogs across the Rio Grande. The men who eventually opened up Amigo's (which is might fine food as well) worked at La Hacienda and would always have 'magic' ketchup bottles, or coins, or something to entertain the kids.

That place was eerie, but wonderful. Couldn't beat it.

Oh yeah, and the little burger joint in Cornudas, TX. The pop. is 11, and I'm sure they all work there, or with all the emus across they highway. Best burgers...ever.

i beg to differ on la hacienda. it was a cool place but the food was slightly better than average.

btw- you should probably stay away from magic ketchup bottles.

maestro1 not sure when you went to the Hacienda but back about 20-25 years ago it was the place for Mexican food and it was great, but like most places out here the food starts to go south as time goes by and the Hacienda's food went about as far south as it could go.

rndom- i agree with you. seems like the hacienda went down to taco bell levels. that is why i couldn't believe the other poster said it was better than leo's.

Well, a restaurant is going from favorite to soon to be closed.

Zentners on Sherwood Way in Angelo has sold and will change owners and names for '08. I ate lunch with Bob Zentner, '50 and Karen his sister, I believe, yesterday while in town. Another tradition leaving WT.

The only positive is the new owner, Henry Hodega(sp)is who bought it and he learned how to cook steaks at the Zentners in Rowena, where it all started.

A sad day for those who love good steaks and CFS.......

Thanks for the notice EMc
Wow, I guess all good things do come to an end sooner or later. We have had many a family gathering there, birthdays, anniverserys, and dates. I don't believe I know the new owner, but if he knows how to cook steaks the Zentner way, then it will be still a good place to eat. I will have to try when i get back home for Christmas.

BrenTex- Henry is the Henry of Henry's Dinner. Anybody in the Concho Valley has eaten there.

Henry actually started as a steak cook at Zentners years ago. No telling what will be different.

Personal favorite in San Angelo is Fernandez, just north of the throughway on Chadbourne. Nothing fancy - family run, super food, good prices (a favorite for the SAPD at lunch each day). The absolute best hot sauce anywhere. San Angelo is the "most eating out" town in the state (according to survey). I asked the kids where I used to teach (I'm retired) why this was so. "There's nothing else to do in San Angelo" was the succinct reply of one 6th grader ... how right he was/is!

Yep.

Were you one of the guys that peed in the pool after our wedding? And I'm not talking about peeing while swimming (everyone does that).

Agdad

My work takes me across the US for months at a time. Good steaks can be found with time but what I miss the most is GOOD hotsause and chips. Many folks seem to think that is just some tomatoes and tabasco.

Interesting Mexican food was found in Mississippi. Tacos-hamburger, cheese and lettuce. Enchiladas-hamburger and cheese with lettuce sprinkled on top. chalupa-hamburger cheese and lettuce. The Concinero forgot the spices.
