Heat won't do too much at this point but can't really hurt. I think working with a therapist who is going to push the range of motion a bit more will be good for you so you won't stiffen up too much. Keep me updated to your progress.

How far down does it radiate? Any previous trauma to the area? Any back issues?

Sounds like the low back needs to be ruled out. Have you seen a PT in your area?
I have been doing 300 crunches 5-6 days a week for over 40 years. That is all I do for the abs and I do not know if that helps my back muscles. I am 69 and never strained my abs and rarely ever strained any back muscles. I started taking Ibuprofen 3 days ago and there seems to be some improvement. I might be on the right track, but any advice is appreciated.aggiederelict said:
You doing any strengthening for the affected areas?
Nothing seems to hurt my back except the tension from the strained ab muscles. It appears to be collateral damage and it has nearly gone away, while the ab strain lingers. Fortunately, the abs have progressively improved over the past week. They would probably be gone if I had stopped running for 3-4 weeks. This could have all been over in late January.aggiederelict said:
So doing ab exercises hurts your back now?
