Auburn would be an actual interesting 3rd permanent. Would feel "real" SEC unlike drawing State or Pigs.

There are 8 schools in Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Texas (the west group), and 8 in the other states (the east group). For permanent rivals, every school could have 2 rivals from their geographic (east or west) group and 1 from the other group. This would help maintain conference unity.

I think this is valid. So give us LSU, Ark, and Vandy!

Arkansas
LSU
tu

Those should be the three. All historical rivals
sip will get to pick its rivals first of course. This is why we'll be stuck with Miss St or some other bum school.

I don't understand this at all- why do sips so obviously get to dictate their three teams ahead of the Ags? It's beyond transparent. I don't get how they have so much say in a league they just joined.

Perhaps it's more about those 3 teams getting to pick them! There are a lot of programs that want a piece of their a** but only three will be guaranteed to get to take a swing each and every year.

tu, lsu and ark would definitely be the top traditional choices from our perspective . I have to think Arky is the only one that is even a question . Arky is a tough one . I think their fans might say LSU , Ole Miss and tu but the conference has a Mizzou dilemma as well. Other than OU who does Mizzou have any real traditional rivalry with in the SEC? I think tu is absolutely a lock for OU and A& M and if they get their choice they'd probably pick Arky as their 3rd.

If I had to bet I'd bet our permarivals won't include Arky. Clanga is the most likely answer

I grew-up in a Razorback family in South Texas, and they will be very disappointed if they don't get Ole Miss. Also, they hate tu more than the Aggies do. They don't like losing to A&M, but they actually respect the University if for no other reason that A&M hates tu, too. If I was still a Razorback fan, I would want Ole Miss, LSU, and Mizzou. I'd live with tu only if forced.

As an Aggie dad & fan, I prefer tu, LSU, and whoever.

Conferences are over. There is no more pride to be had. Give us 2 real rivals and a school with lesser resources. I welcome Miss St.

I hope its Miss St, not Ark. No reason to give Ark a 2nd selling point in to the state recruiting area.

If two other teams besides tu and OU had joined the SEC, who would you've said were our 3 rivals?

I would have said LSU, Arkansas, and Auburn, in that order. I don't think Auburn thought of us as rivals. I never thought of Miss St. or Mizzou as our rivals.
jamey

Most teams dont have more than 1, maybe 2 rivals.

The 2nd and 3rd permanent teaks will just be slots to be filled in most cases. Miss St will never be an actual rival and thats fine

Obviously Kentucky, Vanderbilt, and Miss State.

All joking aside I almost said Miss State but we have a much better win % vs Arkansas. I wonder how playing at Fayetteville vs Dallas will affect that.

Give me corn dog and two of the easiest we can get in the SEC. I'd love to only play tu half the time (or whatever the cycle rate will be). Eff 'em.
dont understand this. I hate Texas, therefore I would love to play them every year.

I don't think the league would stick Auburn annually with Alabama, Georgia , and us. The first 2 are givens . Those will be played every yr.

Likewise I don't think they'd stick us with tu, LSU , and Auburn.

As a Texas fan I love getting all 3 of the rivals, but I can see an upside for OU fans getting just one traditional power and then Mizzou and another 2nd tier school.

If I was an A&M fan I'd want the easiest possible 3rd permanent game after being saddled with LSU and Texas every year.

The more things change, the more they stay the same!

Doesn't feel like the SEC if a third of our games are from former SWC and '80's/'90s opponents.

Considering the SWC was the height of college football (mostly Lone Star State teams, enough rampant cheating to make the devil blush, a bunch of A&M trophies) I'd be fine with calling back to it.

Odds that tu draws the opposite of the sec schedule that OU had the first two years? Since they likely have 3 teams that they played in '24/'25 , should be a no brainer to pickup Bama, Tenn, LSU, Mizzou, SC and Auburn. U fortunately , we know this won't happen and somehow OU will still get the tougher draw

Here's my guess.

Texas, Hogs & LSU or OU

The first two should be locks.

OU is the weird team in all of this.
They are obviously getting Texas and Mizzou. For their 3rd, they should get a team that's traditionally stronger. Three years ago it was floated out they were getting the Gators but I think they are not going to do that now. The Gators just have to many options from the East. And if LSU loses the Bama game because there is plenty of smoke they want an easier 3rd team, LSU most likely get the Gators instead. Or maybe they give LSU both OU and A&M.

We should get LSU instead of OU but if LSU ends up with Gators, A&M & Ole Miss, who's OU's 3rd team? The Vols? So the Vols would get Vandy, Bama, OU. Gators get Georgia, LSU, USC.

Picking two top 10 teams to be teams we play every year is stupid. 76-35 and 36-23. Do we want to get into the playoff or not. We are undefeated against Vandy. Have dominated ol miss. And so. Carolina.

I don't see LSU giving us up as a rival - the only long term rivalry they have is Ole Miss - the rest of their rivalry's are as forced as they claim A&M is. OU has zero rivals in sec besides tu and Mizzou so they are just going to get random rival.

The rival term should not be used for some of the permanent opponents match ups. It's a waste of time using that word. Similar to us being matched up with USC.

As I noted, OUs locks are Mizzou and Texas. Their 3rd team should be a stronger program. I detailed out what I think might happen.

What 3rd opponent do you think they will get and why?

I think that's right, I just don't know which strong team they'll get as the 3rd. A second UT would be fun, but I imagine the Vols have 3 they would prefer not including OU.
LB12Diamond
How long do you want to ignore this user?
AG
That's the thing. The teams are not getting to pick their 3. Some might end up looking like they did but that's only bc it just happened to work.

The SEC is going to try and have the stronger programs get 2 strong, 1 weak.

The Vols will get Vandy and Bama to start. 1 weak, 1 strong

OU will get Mizzou and Texas. 1weak 1 strong. So they both need another strong team.

Gators are getting Georgia. Their second strong team could be Vols or LSU.

If they go Vols. Then OU gets LSU.
If they go LSU. Then OU gets Vols.

Bama pushing to not get LSU is the reason things most likely shake out like this.

If Bama and LSU end up together that would make it easy for them to give us OU instead of LSU. Which I don't think is going to happen bc Bama has so much sway.

It seems that LSU and Texas should be our locks and our week school could end up being anyone. Most likely State or Hogs.

I don't know - just think it will be random (old) east division team.
