11-2 is a great season

the Ags played 6 big time programs this year:

Notre Dame
Auburn
Florida
LSU
Miami
t.u.

and went 4-2

and avoided upset losses to mid-tier programs we expect A&M to always be better than:

Arkansas, Missouri, South Carolina, and State

A&M did not play 6 big time programs this year. LSU, Florida, and Auburn were a combined 16-20. That's mediocre to bad.

We went 1-2 against teams with a pulse. Thats not good. That's mediocre.
I know a lot about a little, and a little about a lot.

You can only choke if you had a great season to begin with. Most year 2 programs are ass. Absolutely a great season and we are headed in the right direction.

Successful and disappointing. Collapsed at year-end in the two most important games of the season. "Finish" became "Fail" and G.R.I.N.D. became B.I.O.Y.A.

The upside is Elko has two weeks to work the portal full-time instead of game planning for OSU

We'll see what happens.

Anyone who says no is a dumbass. Every single person on this site thought 9-3 or worse was the ceiling for this team.

We went 11-2 beat a top 10 team on the road, won in Baton Rouge for the first time in forever, won 11 games for the first time in forever.

All of this in our head coaches second season. The people *****ing the loudest picked us to be 7-5 at best.

11-2 > 8-5.

Last time we won > 10? 2012…the 90's against the mighty SWC

Successful.

When the regular season ended, we still had a chance to win the national championship. That hasn't happened in any of our lifetimes. So it was a successful season in the fact that you played well enough to make the playoffs. The team won all the games it had to in order to make the playoffs for the first time.

From a more analytical perspective, it was a very flawed season.

The offense didn't seem capable of adjusting when something wasn't working.

They refused to deploy a power running game with a speedy QB despite having the personnel to do so.

Our terrible punting game was overshadowed by our even more terrible kicking game. Big time colleges need a guy whose nails from 45 and closer and is viable from 50 and closer. Every time they put that "field goal" range graphic on TV when we were on offense, you just had to laugh.

We also had one of the best skill players the team has seen in the past 25 years in KC Concepcion and only got him the ball 71 times (61 catches,10 rushes) in 13 games. That's not even 6 touches on offense per game. With an above-average QB, he would have been a Heisman contender.

We lost to the sips again in game that meant everything to our future in season and nothing to theirs. Got outcoached by a guy that most of us view as a world-class idiot.

And now the expectation is playoffs every year. Will the program respond or will this be an aberration? Next year after the cupcake game gets interesting right away with Arizona State at Kyle on 9/12, Kentucky visiting on 9/19, and then at LSU on 9/26. If we struggle to close like we did in 2025, it's going to get ugly down the stretch: 11/14 vs. Tennesssee; 11/21 @ Oklahoma; 11/27 home for sip

11-2 in Elko's second season and made the playoffs. At least we're trending in the right direction. Let's see who we gain vs lose in the off season.

It's all downhill from here.

Seriously. Just being a realist. 11-2 is stellar. And we're whining. SO when we go 9-3, or 8-4 next year, it's gonna be pitchforks.

Great things, dynasties, team culture takes time.

Glad they had a pretty good record, but the fade in the last part of the season is disappointing. Seen it before, will see it again. Great record until the last 4 games. That's why it never gets me high even if they are undefeated halfway thru the season.

Yes. Successful without a doubt. Cannot be argued. Increased excitement / nil funding, recruiting and portal momentum, etc. all on the way up. Yes, the ultimate goal is a national title. But that cannot be the only measurement in year 2.

Great? I mean it's wording so who cares, but I would say so. All in the eye of the beholder and via perspective. If this were year 4, I'd say it was a very good year but not great. Again, all about perspective. Even with the portal, and with our "easier" schedule, taking the program to 11-2 from where it was at required a very good job from the coaching staff

Where Elko takes it from here is anyone's guess. But we are ahead of schedule as of now.

Try being a fan. If you can't get high and enjoy this type of season, you are doing it wrong. And this coming from someone who was 99% sure our season would end with a loss and not a national title. Doesn't mean I didn't get excited and have fun along the way.

This season was much like Titanic's maiden voyage. It was great until it wasn't. Elko choked in more ways than one. He had built an 11-0 record, was #3 in the country, had a bye in the playoffs, and had pundits praising us at every turn.

Then he gets ***** slapped by Sark, again. Humiliates himself against Miami, at home, and presto we find ourselves, once more, talking about what "almost was". Elko built up so much support and was absolutely in control of his own narrative. Now…. not so much. All the good will and overwhelming support gone in a flash. Choking at an epic level like this takes all the shine off a great season. Who truly feels like they can brag about this 11-2 season?

Yeah, we went 11-2 for the first time in a long time which would say "success". However, it's difficult to feel we had success after losing to the sips and a so-so ACC team in the playoffs.

I think this just goes to show how far down the food chain we are in CFB for us to consider this year a success.

Bad playoff game

It's only year 2 under Elko so I do think that's great and he's ahead of schedule.

Yeah, this is dramatic.

Humiliated? Come on. We went 11-2 and lost our two games by 10 and 7. It was a disappointing close to an otherwise great season, and there's multiple question marks moving forward. But some of you are so dramatic

As for the good will? NIL funding, recruiting momentum, and the portal in January will all likely say otherwise. Good will being dried up implies his seat could get warm soon. Here's a hint. He's here until year 5 at the absolute minimum, and that's if we go 6-6 for two straight years, and recruiting is still on great footing. So what the zoo thinks doesn't line up with reality.

Hello delusion…. where have you been?

The notion that Elko is here, at a minimum, for five years is comical. Crap the bed next season with a 6-6 record and you don't think his seat will be heating up going into season four? Repeat that 6-6 in 27' and you actually believe Elko will get a fifth year? Haha. That's adorable.

His seat isn't warm but the insulation he created with an 11-0 start to keep seat nice and cool moving forward…. well, he lost that.

You're so dramatic, you are exactly the kinda guys the board who helped hire Elko over stoops where talking about. I bet you thought jimbo was a homerun hire because he "was" a winner. There are 3 coaches still coaching in the modern era who have ever won a NC, and all of them coached a long time before the first one, Kirby? 6 years, dabo? 9 years, Ryan day? 6 years. That's the best doing it, an it took that long. Miss me with this bratty attitude some of you have.

Take a deep breath…. you'll be OK.

I'm wondering….. where was I criticizing Elko for not winning the NC this season? You seem to be under the impression that this is an issue as you felt the need to mention how long it took Dabo, Day, and Smart to win one. Yeah, it takes time to get there genius…. thanks for being a mater of the obvious. However, to be critical of Elko for choking away an 11-0 start with two anemic performances against very beatable teams is perfectly reasonable. We had a great season…. then we didn't.

Take a breath? I'm not the one who just wrote that suicide note of a reply. What you just said now is way less dramatic than what your last two replies said, so maybe you came down to earth now, that doesn't change what I said about the entire attitude of what you typed sounded like. Elko was good, until he wasn't, needs to get over the hump of winning the big games now. That's all you gotta say.

I would say that people should try to keep things in perspective. We have improved each year under Elko. While I realize it is two completely different sports with different dynamics, the basic principles apply. Sometimes, it takes a little time to break through. Look no farther than Aggie Volleyball:

2023 (Jamie), 16-13 overall, 8th SEC, 1st Round
2024 (Jamie), 21-8 overall, 5th SEC, Sweet Sixteen
2025 (Jamie), 29-4 overall, 2nd SEC, National Champion

We didn't win it all the first or second year. He got better each year. We didn't lose our collective $#1+ when we didn't make it out of the first round his first year. Heck, this year, we weren't even the highest ranked team in the SEC. The girls were exposed to the NCAAs several times before winning it all in dominant fashion. It might take the same for the CFP.
