He even named member institutions in the suit, which includes Houston another state institution

This isn't to benefit Texas. It's to protect his donor Campbell

It's unbelievable how stupid Technical is being, from the President on down. Soresby is not some Heisman candidate sure fire NFL 1st round talent. Even if he was, he has never been a student at TTU. He is a 1 year hired pay for play NIL xfer. Tech needs to just punt, declare him ineligible, cancel his NIL deal, and move on with QB2.

This is NOT going to end well for them, though they can't see it for whatever reason.

Honestly, the thing that truly bothers me, the betting aside, is how this much power has been consolidated to such a tiny group of people. The federal judge thing is something that has bothered me for a while, but then someone like Campbell that is able to use their wealth to effectively buy an entire school is just so….absurd to me. And yet, here we are. A few people just turned the CFB world on its head and in all likelihood, will get away with it.

This should have never happened. Not even close. Abuse of power sickens me and it is just so rampant in sports these days and this is just the shining case in point this year.

****, I hate that the NCAA is truly this weak. And how our BoR system works.

No one truly cares about the gambling.

wrong

Haha...who does care about it then?

The schools raking in billions? The networks raking in billions? The middle aged alum of every school living their fantasies through the lives of CFB players? The middle aged alum gambling on prop markets and poly markets and fantasy sites on everything? The middle aged alum donating to NIL funds to buy players? The power brokers at every school donating millions to buy players? Those same people and schools spending hundreds of millions on a coach that might might might get them a conference or CFP championship? The same schools and alum and donors that look the other way when a stud player gets in trouble for smacking around a girl or getting caught with weed or gets a DUI? The same people that snicker when their million dollar transfer player has a grad assistant going to class for them?

It's all a farce at this point. No one cares about the 'integrity of the game' as long as they win.

Agreed. The window to get out is closing quickly.

With Sornsby, Tech probably wins the Big 12, wins a round 1 game, loses in Round 2.

Without SOrnsby, Tech probably loses some random game to Abilene Christian or something, probably wins the Big 12,wins a round 1 game, loses in round 2.

They care about the gambling, perhaps differently than that other stuff, because it directly brings into question whether what we see with our own eyes on the field is "real" or not.

But let's assume the don't even care about that, and that they just want to win. Is it easier for a QB to bet whether he'll throw a TD or an INT in the big game?

I feel that the gambling industry has its HOOKS deep into the sensitive tissue of people that have the power, and if the right thing is not done, then the game is truly off life support.

If the game becomes the WWE then the whole industry blows up, everyone knows this, the ncaa, the schools, espn, the nfl, draft kings, the agents,

Everyone has a vested interest to protect the legitimatacy of the game because it was rakes in the cash

If the games even so much appear to be fixed then the golden goose is cooked.

This is what puzzles me as well. Tech is gambling the future of their program on one season from this rando kid that doesn't give a crap about their program. There is a .0001% chance they win the CFP this year with Sorsby, and even if they do win it'll be considered the most tainted championship of all time and won't bring Tech the respect they crave.

Cody Campbell's crusade in part was for Tech to finally be respected, and he's making moves that ensure that even if they win they'll still be regarded as a low tier clown school by almost the whole country. It's puzzling how he could be so tone deaf to not understand that the cost isn't worth it to play this kid. Can you imagine the circus this year at Sorsby's games when opposing fans start to taunt him. Every mistake is going to inspire chants about his gambling history.

Maybe the only thing more puzzling is Paxton idiotically stepping into this fight. Just shows how worthless our politicians are when we see them using their public positions to comment on stuff like this and threaten organizations.

How would it be tainted? I thought we were more concerned about Sornsby throwing games to cover his bets. If tech wins it, will it be tainted if we find out he gambled on tech to win it all? Or would we then be concerned thst the team tech beat had players that were betting against themselves?

There is so much virtue signaling and faux outrage over this whole thing.

Why not allow athletes to take money from bookies to impact a score then?

I mean, integrity and caring about that is merely "virtue signaling", right?

Exactly, it's the prop bets that are highly vulnerable to player tampering.

NEWS: The Big 12 has filed a complaint in federal court in Dallas for a declaratory judgement, which would effectively give the league the ability to enforce its by-laws. This comes in response to the Texas AG's letter last week. This would empower the Big 12 to have autonomy to make a decision on Brendan Sorsby's case.

Here we go!

I'm sure this has already been discussed, but no kidding, I thought it was illegal to bet on your own games. As in, "the FBI opens an investigation and you can face real jail time" illegal, not just "hey you violated an NCAA policy" illegal.

There is no way that a serious gambling addict who's bet on his own teams dozens of times hasn't altered his play to impact the outcome. How is this guy still walking free?

they are doing tech a favor here, get this all resolved before he plays a down of football and blows up their season.

tech cant have it both ways, if his 'addiction' is as bad as they say, then this dude should not be anywhere near a football field

tech needs to cut bait, this could all be over tomorrow, the kid is toxic, write off the $5m and move on, there is no way this juice is worth the squeeze

Polls don't matter

The college football committee is the only thing that matters and per Pate's connections, they are saying this would have no influence. But then he said, he thinks they are just stating that to avoid lawsuits and if Sorsby did play, the committee will most likely keep them out or have them at the bottom and just state strength of schedule to justify.

Surely you jest. Pretty simple to see how a Tech natty this year would not be remembered fondly by 99.9% of the country. Not only playing an ineligible player, but playing a player that will almost certainly lose his case at trial eventually when it's litigated.

The injunction was just a judge kicking the can down the road not some statement on the merit of his case. This whole process is just delaying the inevitable and for some reason Tech has decided to go along for the ride knowing that it's eventually going to blow up in their faces.

It doesn't make a lot of sense. Is it too late to throw money at another QB? Is their backup QB that bad?

I'm a Tech fan that doesn't want to see Sorsby play another play of college football, especially for Tech.

That said, the case will never see the light of day.

All that was granted was a temporary injunction for a case that is scheduled to be tried in February. Sorsby will drop the case in late January. You can't appeal a court case that was never tried in the first place.
