Bonfire.

One of the reasons we are in a funk, in my view, is the fallout from the Bonfire accident.

Bonfire. It will sustain the spirit year in and year out. The MNC's will follow.

We will probably never achieve the 110' bonfires of my youth, but the process of bonfire is the glue of the Aggie Spirit.

Did we have Bonfire when we lost to the sips 30 straight times or so? Yes. How many MNCs have we had with Bonfire? 1. Wow, that's impressive.

Did Kyle always sell out during Bonfire? With the arguments on here, it seems it would have, since the 12th man was so alive and well and everyone back then used to know what an Aggie was and was so proud of their school. Sorry, Kyle never has consistently sold out, so it must have been something else that killed the 12th man.

Fact is, the 12th man has been dead or dying since 1876, yet we still continue to hear stories from other fans and other people who are touched by Aggies that proves otherwise. 2005 has been no different.

Give me a damn MNC. I guess I am just a bad Ag. Or maybe the tough internet guy will slap me if he ever hears me say that in person.

Define participated. If you are talking about cut and stack, you are talking a small percentage of the student body.

Bonfire did not define us as Aggies. BigD Ag hit this one out of the park. I wonder how many of our football players "participated" in Bonfire in 1998? I think people just remember having the football players come and help in '99 and want to believe that Bonfire was uber important to all. That tragedy did bring lots of us together, but it wasn't because the tragedy was centered around Bonfire.

Falcone -

Read my first post. I grew up a HUGE Sooner fan. My dad was Sooner class of 74 and I grew up going to games in Norman. In 1985 I was a junior in high school and already had full expectation to be attending OU in the fall of 1987. I lived, breathed, and everything else Sooner football. The Boz was my hero (I still have my #44 Boz jersey I wore back then), I lived and died by the wishbone. That january 1st of 1986 I was at a huge football party in Tulsa decked out in my Crimson and Cream. We had the OU-Penn St and the big screen and the Miami-Tennessee game on a small TV so we could see what was happening with #2 Miami. OU won a hard fought game against JoePa and his boys 25-10 and Tennessee destroyed the Canes 35-7 in the Sugar and OU was #1. Nothing like a bunch of crazed Sooner fans (most of then doctors) running up and down the street in the cold screaming "WE'RE NUMBER 1" at the top of our lungs just to annoy the Oklahoma State alums in the neighborhood. I wasn't a student at OU, BUT, it was MY school back then.

"Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." John 14:6

"These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world." The words of Jesus; John 16:33

not being an aggie (Texas EX), but my brother built 1 or 2 in the mid 90's (and I went to 2 yells there and witnessed more then most horn fans have) I would think that winning a MNC would allow the program just about anything they wanted, i.e. bonfire. maybe not.

either way, it has to be MNC by far, I am surprised more people are concerned about getting bonfire back then a winning program.

Bonfire :

never have seen it, but it would probably bring tears to my eyes to watch it burn and soak up the enormous meaning of it.... and this would happen every year.

MNC :

maybe once in a life time, i would get drunk and enjoy it.

that being said Bonfire stands for a lot more.

MNC. This is very easy. Everyone is so wrapped up in traditions here at A&M and scared of change. I loved Bonfire as much as the next Aggie ( I attended the '97 one) but we are "Building Champions" not Bonfires. I will probably receive some grief from this but I want to win and its people like ya'll that want Bonfire instead of a MNC that are holding us back.

You never worked on Bonfire and you only attended 1...you don't love Bonfire as much as the next person...you don't even know what it is about! Are you even an Aggie...for some reason I doubt it.

Actually, Big D the 12th Man didn't exist in 1876, so it couldn't be dying. The tradition of the 12th Man was born in Dallas, during a football game against Centre College in 1922.

If you'd been in the right outfit, you'd know that.

Real Bonfire? I fully suspect that any bonfire ever brought back to campus will be of the "hire a company to install a Home Depot bonfire kit" and will be a huge step backwards from the Bonfire which will burn on Saturday.

Get out to Bonfire, we already have it, and hopefully it will inspire the team and 12th man to the other goal.

Apetree - thats a typical response. No logical answer, just a "stfu" cuz you know that the truth hurts. How is Bonfire going to help us win? Yeah it was a great tradition, but I pay money to this school to win and bringing back bonfire cant do that. Sorry.

sonny,

You don't have clue what it take to be an Aggie. MNC's are won every year...big deal! LSU won one a few years ago and does anyone really think that is a better school than A&M? I doubt it. A&M football will come as it always does but not having Bonfire is killing this University...you are a perfect example of the problem.
