mnc..

our program and our school will never become among the elite as long as we continue to focus everything we do at the other state institution. bonfire represents our burning desire to beat t.u. our "fight song" (war hymn) is directed at t.u. we compare everything we do (business school ranking, engineering school ranking, etc.) to t.u. and frankly it seems a little ridiculous.

oh well, this probably means i'm a bad ag, but some of you really sound crazy....

This is really silly question as an Aggie you would really like both to happen. Monetarily a MNC would help, but for Aggies the Bonfire was a awesome event that everyone should be a part of. We would also like the game to be back on Thanksgiving night as well, but things change for money.

Bonfire for sure,

It is one the many things that made A&M special. The MNC is something that many schools have had or will get. Not near as big a deal.

This post may explain a lot into why we are behind tu in many categories. Seems like instead of focusing on results we are focusing on traditions. True the traditions make the school great, but without results traditions are just traditions.

First we need the Bonfire to rekindle Aggie spirit.

That leads to the MNC.

Hold the rope, Ags. We are headed in the right direction, starting with shocking the world on T+1.

I would gladly give up any hopes of EVER winning an MNC if it meant having bonfire back.

Great question Raptor.

Agree completely with BigD.

There are 45,000 students on campus. In any given year, I doubt 5% (2000 or more people) "participated" in the construction of bonfire. Does that mean 95% of the students were bad Ags or couldn't appreciate bonfire? Doubtful.

This school needs to focus as much on achieving excellence as it does on traditions. There's nothing wrong in trying to reproduce the academic and monetary successes of the school in Austin (or Berkeley or Boston or Durham)if the traditions are maintained.

Saying Bonfire would lead to a MNC is just ignorant. That implies that ALL teams (including RC's) refused to play hard for the past 6 years because they didn't have a campus bonfire. Dumb.

Reply to later post -
True that less than 1% of the students play on the football team, but the team doesn't call out the rest of the student body as because they didn't "participate" in football.

Too bad the thread got locked on "will fran come to bonfire?"

He's too smart a guy to show up to a large fire that he might be thrown upon.

Mythical, since there is no playoff system, therefore no Actual National Championship.

Less than 1% of the student on campus play for the football team. The rest of us just watch.

BONFIRE (as any true Aggie would state...say what you want about that comment)

That is a reflections of what has made A&M what it is...and what it is loosing today...a MNC would bring plenty of fans, but they would be the same fair-weather or non-affiliated ones that you guys rip on tu and ou for having.

Bonfire, period.

There's more to TAMU than football.

Aggie Spirit is more important than 'building champions' or being the top Business or Engineering program. Our head guys should be AGGIES.

Bonfire without a doubt. MNC is just a football everyone needs to remember that but building bonfire is much more. Everyone seems to point that bonfire stands for our burning desire to beat the hell out of tu and the undying love all aggies have for texas a&m, but forget the second line. People are forgetting the second part and thats why the univeristy is going down hill as many say.
