I missed first half sounded like it was rough.

2nd half we applied all the pressure really, building the entire time, they had a few chances. Then Kane got a beautiful header on a mid range ball in. A beauty.

If Leicester and Liverpool tie or lose their matches today we stay on top.

I never knew about this but.... Maradona played for Tottenham for 1 game in 1986 in an exhibition for the testimonial of his friend Ossie Ardiles a fellow Argentine and winner of the WC in 1978.

He did not score but was impressive anyway with several touches, dribbles, passes, etc.

He showed up after a WC tuneup match vs Norway without boots and had to borrow them from Clive Allen the only other size 6.5 on the team.

Glenn Hoddle, who played alongside Maradona in midfield as Spurs won 2-1, previously told the club's website: "The sheer magnetism of Maradona lifted the whole atmosphere. A staggering 30,000-plus crowd turned up for the match, and the kick-off had to be delayed for 15 minutes to allow all the thousands of fans in.


This was right before the WC in 1986 and Maradona would cement his reputation there with the incredible (hand of god and goal of the century) goals for a brace in the QF against England. He was asked in interviews after the game how it was to play in front of British fans and if he thought it would be a problem if they played England in the WC.


Highlights

Personal footnote - the 1986 WC was my first exposure to international soccer. It was hosted in Mexico and the cooks and other workers in the restaurant I was at that summer had the games on the radio and on satellite TV i the bar all the time especially for Mexico of course. I just got caught up in all of that excitement and I was hooked.

So Maradona was always someone I admired and followed. He was crazy good, crazy charismatic, an enigma, a huge personality and also just crazy.

Always entertaining though.
