Yep. Saw something fairly legit a few days ago that said they're Pakistani and getting $10 a day plus room and board to act rowdy. The actual Qatari are wearing white and are infinitely more subdued.
You can tell the Qataris aren't experienced international footballers. No flopping, deliberate time wasting tactics, harassing the officials after calls, etc.
Qatar is so bad I'm not sure that even Big 12 football refs could save them.
Yea so I just looked up their lineup on Wiki. I was assuming that they had at least a few players that played competitive European soccer, maybe in Turkey or something. Or maybe in the MLS.
Nope. Not a single player on their team plays internationally anywhere.
Their strategy is interesting. They have a home grown academy that scouts players at 10, and if they are good enough they live there and okay soccer for the next 8 years. They are farmed out to decent European leagues where they own parts of other teams (Leeds united is one, and a couple of Spanish teams in lower leagues). Otherwise they all play in the Qatari league in order to make sure they have good chemistry. They know they likely won't have the talent to out talent teams so they depend on playing well as a team.
Here's a video that explains it. Pretty interesting strategy and not a bad one for a small country IMO.

They're flopping but not rolling around when it's not called.
Ecuador looks like they are playing slow vs how id expect the top 10-15 teams to play. Also very poor midfield play from both teams. Maybe EPL has my standards too high.

Tournament play is so much less fluid and having five subs is going to make individual games feel even choppier
