Will this thread end similar to last year's when it was: "Kobe only has 3 current or former All-NBA players he is playing with, how do you expect Kobe and the Lakers to win with such a weak supporting cast"?

This season will be very different from last year's asterisk season.

The Lakers shortcomings last year had a lot to do with a new coach, no preseason, and very limited practice time. The teams that did well last year were the ones with continuity.

Starting 5 is the best the league has including Miami, but their bench is very suspect.

Jamison and Meeks will need to step up. And their age needs to allow them to stay healthy through the playoffs.

Kobe
Nash
Artest (who looks great)
Gasol
Howard

Meeks
Blake/Duhon (depends on who's playing better)
Jamison
Hill

That'll do pig.

Ebanks will push for minutes as well.

I'm really interested to see what the personel groupings and rotation look like this season. I expect to see the youngsters get out and run with Nash a little bit.

i still REALLLYYY dont like mike brown. he just did weird things with the player rotation later on in the year that made you scratch your head. bringing in eddie jordan is something i like. will be interesting to see how nash can run a pick and roll/princeton hybrid offense. this is going to be mettas best season as a laker and it will also be kobes most efficient season since his mvp

I was really pulling for Brian Shaw to get the job when Phil left. I am withholding judgement on Mike Brown until the end of this season.

Completely agree on MWP. He is in great shape and focused. Hopefully he breaks us off a Champion remix next summer.

i felt the same way about brian shaw. i thought he was going to be able to step in after being under phil for a while. i honestly believe mike brown has to go if we dont at least get to the nba finals. this team is built to win now and we cant throw seasons away

I think this group will blow up by the All-Star break. Either because of injuries, or chemistry problems. I'd put them behind the Heat, Thunder & Spurs come playoff time.

No matter what, it will be fun to watch.

if they ever get Howard to accept the role of getting a few passes in the post but relying mainly on going to the offensive glass, running the floor and blocking shots, then they'll kill everybody.

Mike Brown is an idiot, but he probably likes getting a paycheck. You know how John Fox tried for the first couple of games to call Denver's plays before saying "**** it, this Peyton guy is kind of good" ? Nash will run what he wants to run, or Brown will be out of a job by January.

As long as no one gets hurt, LA can be an offensive machine. On D they fixed their biggest problem (people getting to the rim), although they still don't have a point guard that can stay in front of anyone. This team has no excuse for not making the finals. Beating the Heat is another matter, but they have the pieces.

If the Lakers miss 19 FTs a game, they may go 0-82.

Also, this overly complicated offense is going to take awhile to learn.

Potato Head is definitely on the hit seat. Let Nash/Howard run pick and roll. Give ball to Kobe in 4th. High/low with gasol/Howard. Get Meeks on the floor with Howard in the second unit to space it from 3. The end.

as long as nash is walking the ball up the court like last night, lakers will play like trash

Coach Brown has repeatedly stated that Nash is free to improvise. They did use some pick and roll and worked great when they ran it.

As out of sync as the new offense looked at times, the Lakers still shot 50% from the field and got to foul line 31 times. Pau looked great passing the ball and I can't remember the last time Kobe got so many easy buckets.

Offense was not what cost us the game. Nineteen missed free throws and piss poor defense in the second half was clearly the culprit.

The Lakers offense should get much better as the season goes on. Too much talent still learning how to play together. But the Lakers defense? Nash and Blake just had issues defending Darren Collison. What will elite point guards do? I'm not sure how that gets better. Aside from Howard it seems like defense will be the Lakers weakness.

Cougar, that was the first game out of 82. I've never seen someone so pumped up for an opening night win. Damn.

I can't stand LA. I just thought it was interesting how much that dude was pumping game 1.

And, yes, I am scared. Scared of the Spurs catching the injury bug.

The Lakers have won 4 times in Portland since 2002.

They are still turning the ball over too much. Comes from a new system and players not playing together before.

Hopefully Nash's injury isn't too serious.

If they're .500 at the all star break and/or don't make the WCF he's gone.

This start is not surprising. They have far too many turnovers because they aren't familiar with each other.

If it doesn't come together, bye bye potato.

The Lakers also need to realize they will probably be getting every teams best shot. Mavs played awesome last night. Blazers awesome tonight. Some of that is crap Laker defense. Some of that is every team has something to prove.

22 turnovers in a game is ridiculous. Blazers won't miss at home due to being in a rhythm by shooting layups. Last night FTs. Tonight, TOs.

And you can bet the Lakers will lose to the clippers on Friday too.
