Classic case of being penny wise and dollar foolish. The Lakers could pay Brown, D'Antoni, and potential another $4MM/year coach for the same money as Phil. I'd still love to see him back, but I doubt we'll see it.

Whether D'Antoni keeps his job or not will likely depend on the free agent market for Pau Gasol. If the Lakers can bring in some guys more suited to D'Antoni's system (Kevin Love?), he'll get another year. If not, we'll see a change. If not Phil, I'd still love to see Brian Shaw come home.

The Lakers have played .680 ball since the All-Star Break. They're clearly a step level below the Miami and OKC, but I'd don't think anyone is rooting to play them in the first round.
