With the issue not out we can't accurately debate the rankings but I'd say the Spurs, Heat and Thunder are above the Grizzlies and that's just NBA. What is the criteria?

First point, I agree. It seems like the Truehoop crowd has been very friendly to Hollinger and the Grizzlies, especially when the whole Lionel Hollins non-renewal went down.

Second point. While on field/court franchise success matters, it was not the complete measure. They did things like affordability (Grizzlies are very cheap), community relations, and fan support.

Here's the thing with the article, they make it sound like Memphis is a Grizzlies town, and it is, but only after the Memphis Tigers finish the season. I think the magazine article way overstates the support for the team, because I think it is pretty weak.

Like most franchises, they sell out Lakers, Thunder, Heat, Knicks, etc type games, but I'm always disappointed in the turnout for any SW division foe, much less a non-marquee team from the Eastern Conference.

Now I am reconsidering going to SA for the opening game.

You may be able to leave early, at least.

I'm guessing a 5-5 start for the first 10 games of the season.

Stuff came up so I won't be able to go anyways. I will be going to the Saturday night game against Dallas though.

These last five games (the spurs games) make me miss the Rudy Gay era. At least in those lack luster performances, you could geta few amazing dunks in the game.

Wow, Tony Allen 3 for 3 on 3 pointers tonight. He made 3 all of last season I think. IF he can produce something from outside, that's huge for the Grizz this season.

Grizz cut it to 6 and then Quincy missed that driving layup that would have cut it to 4. Since then, all Spurs and lead back to 15.

Good call on the opening loss Iowa.

That's an incredible stat about the opening day losses. The blind squirrel theory would figure on getting a win at some point...

It would have almost been disappointing to end that opening night loss streak.


I thought the most humorous part of the night was when Mike Miller was running down and trying to make a play on Ginobili, and after Ginobili missed the easy layup, the two geezers both ran back to the other end, looking like old men with bad backs.

I went to the Grizz preseason game vs. the Bucks a couple weeks ago and got there about 90 minutes early. Tony Allen was out there practicing jumpers both mid range and 3 pointers and was hitting almost every one of them one after the other.

Practice without a hand in his face of course but I wonder if he's putting in more time on his shot these days? Him going 3 for 3 from downtown was the most shocking stat of last nights game for me.

Memag: When I went to game 5 vs OKC I noticed the exact same thing. He made shot after shot and didn't seem to miss more than once or twice in warmups.

I've heard the same thing. If he can develop that Bruce Bowen corner three, it will be a huge contribution to the team. He showed at Okie Lite that he can score. It would be nice if was any kind of threat.


Also, the Grizzlies extended QPon for next year: 4 years and $14M.

At the opener tonight, and I was surprised at how much Mike Miller played, and honestly, that QPon and Prince not playing more.
Slow start, nice finish.

Mike Miller did the welcome to the Grizzlies fans before the national anthem. I'll just say that he won't have a career in the WWE working the mic.


Also, the rapper Future did a little performance.

Ouch that was an awful game. What was up with the officials calling some terrible fouls for both teams? Also, where was Tony Allen? It seemed like he barely got in the game. 34 fouls against.

Didn't watch the game but saw that they beat the lowly Boston Celtics. 2-2.

Pelicans tonight. Hopefully can make it two in a row.

They really need to get their act together defensively and start playing harder and with more effort. They kind of sleptwalk through portions of that Celtics game and the Celts damn near beat them.
