Same ol same ol vs. the Spurs. This same story plays out when these two teams meet. The themes:

--Spurs bench dominates the Grizzlies
--Parker dominates the Grizzlies (he struggled some tonight but they let him go off in the 4th)
--No outside game for the Grizz (Miller's acquisition is useless if he can't hit shots)
--Anytime Grizz make any kind of run, the Spurs answer with scoring from everywhere and everyone (Splitter, Diaw, Leonard, Manu, Parker, etc etc)

We just have no outside consistent scoring that you have to have against a team like SA. Too many weapons in black and silver and not enough in blue. 10 of the last 12 in this series have gone the Spurs way.

Games like tonight really show me that the Grizz front office has done a terrible job surrounding our core guys with role players that can fill it up.

T&P against the Rockets next.

Conley's strong game was for nothing.

Offensively Tayshaun Prince, Tony Allen, and Mike Miller are about as useful offensively as a one-legged man in an ass kicking contest.
Bayless is hot and cold, but at least some time he is hot. Not tonight.

Prince: 5-13
Allen: 4-9
Miller: 1-5
Bayless 1-4
and they combined to be 1-8 from 3.

Conversely:
Leonard, Green, Manu, Marco combined to be 16-33 and are always a threat that have to be covered.

With or without Gasol, the Grizzlies can't beat the Spurs in a 7 game series as both teams are currently constructed. Quite frankly, they can't beat them in a 1-game matchup as I think the Grizzlies have only beat the Spurs once in 14 tries since the 2011 playoffs.

Allen needs to develop the corner 3 to hide his other offensive weaknesses.

What's funny about that Ganondorf is I've showed up to a couple games really early when Allen is out there practicing and he nails 3 consistently from the corner and the wing but for some reason, it just doesn't translate to the game.

They don't run plays for him there.

Look at the Spurs with Bowen, Green, Leonard and even Parker getting called plays for corner 3s. Those same guys know when a play breaks down how to space the floor and be ready in the corners. Bowen was just as bad offensively (and kick minded) but Pop made him thrive with the 3.

If he can make the shots then it's on the coaches to give him a chance to do it in the game.

While it isn't a funny situation for Grizzlies fans, today's Commercial Appeal had one of the great newspaper's gaffes because of the Gasol injury.

Did anyone (other than the Memphis front office) think it was a good idea to let Hollins go? He was a good coach, I always felt like he got that roster to perform above what it should have been able to do. It wasn't his fault there are only a couple scorers on the team.

In watching the Grizz boards, there has always been a backlash against him. He is a lot like Pop, without the intelligent humor. He was confrontational and had no problem correcting guys when they needed to be and didn't put up with a lot of attitude stuff (which is why Allen Iverson lasted about a week). He had no time for the media, and would rather work with a charity than go talk to sportswriters or big fans.

People blamed him for the inept offense, and overlooked the 5 or 6 straight years of improved records, and so when he made a couple comments about the Rudy trade and use of analytics, the haters really overplayed them, and were happy to see him gone.

I believe the new guys want their own guy in there, and ultimately want to reshape the team, but like I wrote this past summer, I think the new guys are over their head.

Here is a 20+ page thread about firing Hollins from January of last year. Not really worth your time to read, but between the Rudy Gay trade and the Hollins release, it made for some interesting reading: http://boards.grizzliesonline.com/index.php?showtopic=14691&st=0

Well, the analytics machine spat out Mike Miller, so I'm on Hollins' side on this one.

Honestly, I'm not sure what to make of this team this year. I think what you lost with Hollins was the "grit/grind" mentality that allowed the Grizz to always fall back on their defense when the offense went stale. This year, other than maybe Tony Allen, you don't have that. And like has been stated earlier on this thread, they still don't have shooters to complement the big guys inside.

Allowing Houston 38 points in the 4th Q while Howard was on the bench and Harden in street clothes? Not taking anything away from the Rockets because they can fill it up but that's not something you'd see much from the Grizz when Hollins was coach.

Memphis has now lost to every Texas team. I can't talk trash to anyone currently.

What was frustrating watching last night wasn't the fact that the bench/2nd unit let another lead slip away, it was the fact that you could see the lead slipping, then disappear altogether, and Grizzlies get down, and Joerger responded way too late.

It was to the point where I was wondering if Joerger had been hearing so much from the assclowns in the front office about playing the bench more, so he sent the message tonight that we can play the bench more, but wins are nice too.

0 wins against the Southwest division this year.

From the Houston side, I though Asik's play was the big turning point.

In spite of their best efforts to keep it close, the Grizzlies won a game they should have tonight, thanks to a fast start.

Pretty boring to watch, but they got up 12 early, extended the lead, but generally the lead stayed around 12 or so until the end of the game when the Celtics started banking 3s to get the game down to 3 at one point.

Bayless played much better, and Koufos has been a real nice addition.

ZBo out for grizzlies tonight because of ingrown toenail.
First time since he joined team that both he and Marc are out.
Gigem Trevas

Yeah not really a recipe for success without Z Bo and Marc.

It is amazing how average players can look great against bad teams. Last night, Jonny Basketball and Ed Excitement averaged a 20-10 each.

Leuer had 23 pts, 9 rebounds, and 3 blocks on 10-13 shooting.
Davis had 21 pts, 12 rebounds, and 2 blocks on 8 of 11 shooting.

7 players got into double digit scoring, including Prince on 5 of 6 shooting.

Thanks Phoenix, I know you are sad that you aren't in the playoffs in the East, but some teams need you in the West right now.

Joe Crawford on the dock for tonights game vs GSW.

Maybe he'll have a good game tonight because it is very cold here in Memphis, which is a sign that hell is freezing over.

GS wasn't in the game vs Houston but that was with Thompson shooting like crap so maybe Memphis has a shot.

A.I. not playing again tonight for GSW.

It would be nice to get a win.

Bayless played in a GS jersey tonight going 0-11.
