Reposting. Sorry, that is not sitting at the end of a page where no one sees it.

Some Spanish reporter saying Gasol to Bulls via S&T.

hoopshype.com/rumors.htm

I knew it was a long shot. Hopefully this is inaccurate. At least he didn't go to the west. Money wins out once again.

Chicago avoids the luxury tax like the plague. They are at 70mm before Boozer is amnestied.

Woj said it won't be a S&T for Boozer, so apparently LA doesn't want Booz.

Chicago is at 71mm before resigning Kirk Heinrich.

I don't see how this gets done.

Long shot to begin with. At least he goes to the East and makes LAL into even more of a cellar dweller for years to come which couldnt happen to a smugger player(looking at you Kobe).

Yeah I don't see how a S&T is possible. LA used up all their cap room. I guess they found someone to take Nash's 10M?

I figured LA wanted to hold onto that contract though to preserve cap room for next off season.

I'll be very interested to see what this deal looks like.

Only reason I thought the spurs had a huge chance in this was the fact that a S&T appeared to be off the table.

How exactly does a sign and trade work? I've never understood the term.

He signs with his current team and they trade him to his new team for picks, players, trade exceptions or some combination of the three.

The advantage for the lakers is they get something back, the advantage for the bulls is they can clear cap space and the advantage for Pau is the bulls can likely offer him more money than just signing him as a free agent.

Still, I am wondering who Chicago gives up. If they trade boozer or Gibson for a 35 year old Pau then I am not sure they got all that much better and still aren't a real contender without a big name free agent. Plus it sounds like lakers will need to get rid of someone else as well.

I read that the lakers don't want Pau in the west, which is kind of an odd concern when they are so far away from competing that Pau would never hurt their chances before he retires.

I've seen reports that Dunleavy would be the centerpiece of the Bulls S&T. Gibson was a key figure in the presentation to Melo, so I think he's going to be back with the Bulls unless they're presented with an offer too good to be true. If they pull off the Dunleavy for Pau deal, the door would still be open to sign Melo.

That would be a good deal for Chicago. Kind of funny that Lin and dunleavy would be the highlights of the lakers offseason. I really don't know why the lakers would even mess with this for just dunleavy but perhaps they have their reasons.

Huh. I looked at who the bulls have under contract for 2014-2015 and my rough math says they are paying around 59mm a year to current players, and that is without a full roster. That said, I don't know who counts for or against their cap space because of previously used exceptions. I dont see how they could sign Pau to 10mm a year and Melo to a max contract without offloading a bigger contract like Boozer or Gibson. Dunleavy is a UFA. It would suck if LAL took chump Dunleavy for Pau straight up and the Bulls don't get Melo.

To fit Melo, Booze would be amnestied or S&T

The Lakers are probably planning to compete in 15/16 or 16/17 at the latest. Kobe is the only player still on the books at that point, and maybe they think he'll renegotiate for one last hurrah after another season of painful sucking. They'll throw a bunch of money around for the free agents that year and probably aren't done trying this year.

If Pau Gasol goes to SA or OKC, either will still be a major force in 2016 and probably in 2017 as well, plus that will make it easier to land Marc Gasol in 2015. That would be a major problem for the rest of the West for 3-4 years when you consider that the Spurs would probably be starting TP-Green-Leonard-Splitter-MGasol with Mills, Diaw, Anderson, PGasol, and Pop on the bench.

Carmelo headed back to NY (no surprise). Bulls moving quickly on Gasol per KC Johnson.

Stinks to miss on Pau but as stated it is better he is in the east than the west.

The good news is that nobody in the west got significantly better via free agency now that most the big names are off the board. Dallas may be the team that upgraded the most depending on what happens with Parsons but I still see the Spurs and Thunder as the clear favorites in the west.

Agreed GatorAg. Spurs have a great chance to get No. 6 next year.

Be interesting to see how much Pau gets paid. With no Carmelo, they can afford to pay him a lot of money. Sucks for his career, though I guess he's already got a couple of titles. Can't blame him for wanting to cash in before he calls it quits. Bulls probably become the new favorite to win the east in 2014-2015 depending on what they give up in the trade. (and also depending on if Derrick Rose has any knees left)

Agree like everybody else... just as long as none of the other contenders in the West significantly upgraded I'm happy.

Chicago and Cleveland could definitely be the new big boys in the East. And what happens with Miami now? Are they going to flat out suck? LeBron was everything to that team.

With Pau at Chicago and Lebron going to Cleveland the east got a whole lot more balanced. The easts top team wouldn't even be top 4 in the west but it should in theory make for a tougher playoff road for whomever comes out of the east.

Based on free agency thus far I think the following:

Chicago, Indiana and Miami and the Cavs all should be about even at the top of the east and Washington should be a solid team again.

Still the story is going to be the west.

I would rank the teams the west contenders as Spurs, OKC, Clips and then the Mavs/rockets depending on who gets parsons and then maybe an outside shot that the warriors could be much improved with Kerr.

We'll see how it looks once the second and third tier free agents finish signing.

Yeah even though the spurs missed in Pau, this off season couldn't have gone much better for SA.

Plus Dallas took a minor hit losing Vince to Memphis, assuming Cuban doesnt throw crazy $$$$ a Areza or Deng. No more corner 3's at the buzzer to worry about....

Spurs have beaten the Knicks, Nets, Pistons, Cavs, and now Heat in the Finals. None of those teams made it back. The Spurs Curse is real.
