It made sense to go after Jordan the first time, but now he's going to be a few years older and not as good.

As much as I'd be ok with us unloading Matthews, he does play hard and still has decent contributions in the game. He's also apparently widely known to be great in the locker room, and we have two young guard types he can instill the right culture into along with Dirk still on the team.

I never understood why they went ahead and maxed him out when it didnt seem necessary. I know part of the strategy was a Deandre combo platter that fell thru. So maybe you seed his deal a bit more, but it seemed like they went much further than necessary

If I remember correctly, the Mavericks brass met with Matthews at the start of free agency and secured his commitment. They tried to use the momentum from Mathews to get deandre Jordan. Cuban promised Matthews he would get "what's left over" after they get Jordan. The Jordan deal fell through and for some reason Mathews stayed committed and Cuban maxed him out since that was "what's left". It was a bad look tho since they gave a max deal to a player who just ruptured his Achilles' tendon the year before.

I'll be glad when he's gone, but knowing my luck the Mavericks will extend him.

It's because of this disaster that I'm hoping the Mavericks don't pursue deandre Jordan again this summer.

What a draft so far! I thought the Mavs were out of the running on Doncic after the lottery, but getting him now AND watching Robert go to Boston, unreal night!! If you have to slide in the draft, might as well slide to the team that has Bradley Stephens as your coach who made the Eastern Conference finals WITHOUT Gordon Hayward OR Kyire Irving! Should be a fun ride to watch unfold!!
