I'm very skeptical of bringing in Melo. The only thing that would make me comfortable is if Morey took it as a flyer on Melo with the option to dump him by February if things aren't working out.
Gotta trust Morey knows what he is doing.
This. I'm a little optimistic given he's never played on an NBA team with a true leader who held him accountable. That said, I don't know if we could break him.rvk246 said:WES2006AG said:

We can always cut his ass if he becomes a cancer. He won't be paid like a star anymore if he comes here.

Lots of Melo to Rockets chatter.
Credible chatter.
He absolutely is worth that much. He protects the rim extremely well, is very athletic, and can switch onto smaller guards unlike other great defensive bigmen like Gobert and Embiid. In any other offseason, someone would throw him a max.lil99chris said:

I agree but we need to make some moves before the trade deadline this year. We need tall perimeter defenders that can keep up with Durant.CFTXAG10 said:
Top 10 highest paid Centers in the league are making between 22-29 mill a year. I think its reasonable for Clint to be in the 20+ range. The Rockets have the luxury of throwing out the 4yr/60 deal with how the market looks this year alone. If you are Clint, you either take the money now and guarantee yourself at least that over the next 3-4 years depending on a 4th year option, or you take a one year deal and then try for a max in free agency next year. The latter involving a lot of risk if you get injured.
In regards to how the offseason is shaking out, I really don't get the negative reaction from social media and other Rockets fans. We lost Luc and Ariza. Arguably two of your better defenders, but you still have guys like Paul, Capela, and Tucker. Hell, even Harden and Gordon looked decent on defense last year. You sure as hell weren't paying Ariza 15 mill for one year. He is a streaky shooter and the last few seasons he pretty much disappeared in the playoffs when the moment got too big. Might miss his veteran presence. On Luc, he wasn't the same after coming back from his shoulder injury. Missing wide open layups and easy buckets, and not able to defend as well. Will he eventually fully recover and return to his normal self? Maybe.
I don't see Capela leaving. He may only sign for one year, but he will likely be in a Rockets uniform come October. You return Paul, Harden, Capela, Tucker, Green, and Gordon. We are in good shape, and just need to be patient for now.

Maybe he gets injured, its misdiagnosed, and handled poorly which alienates him and then he leaves. Has that ever happened before?
He was using his own doctors before the season started.Farmer1906 said:

He did that after he felt he was misdiagnosed the year before.Guitarsoup said:He was using his own doctors before the season started.Farmer1906 said:

I think the underlying issues are that Nike/Jordan offered to reup him, but the contract was just 4y20mm for playing in SA, but it would be larger in LA. Plus being from LA and having family there.
Durant is making $25mm/year. Harden is making $14mm/year. Steph is making $12mm/year. Dame is making $11mm/year. That's obviously just their shoe deals.
Kawhi's ~$5mm/yr offer is in line with Westbrook's deal while playing in OKC.
