Would Miami have room with the Butler contract? Send back Winslow, Hero and picks?

I don't see OKC as a playoff team right now. The West is too deep. Clippers, Lakers, Nuggets, Rockets, Jazz, Spurs, Blazers, Warriors. Who are they going to beat out? They barely made it this year.

Kawhi managed to **** over 4 franchises. I can't believe this guy was a Spur.

The league really needs to do something about these trade requests. With star players, contracts mean absolutely nothing. The supermax has failed.

But at least there still isn't one clear cut contender. George is a good player, but he's no LeBron or AD.

Plus the Mavs with Luka and Porzingis could make some noise and the Kings were in the playoff hunt for a good portion of last season and Fox should only get better.

Will be interesting to see what OKC does with Westbrook and what Toronto does with Lowry and Gasol.

Both teams could be looking to rebuild now and dump contracts.

Who has the assets to make a deal?

Also, this sheds even more light on the way Kawhi and his camp do business. It's even clearer now that the Spurs were not at fault for his gap year.

Poor raptors are gonna go from champs to rebuilding in one year because of nephew.

If only...

Caught up in all the hoopla of the decision of nephew, Lonnie Walker scored 28 of the 59 total points for the summer Spurs last night in only 3 quarters. This is the kind of progress you want to see from a guy in his spot. He should be the best player on the floor every game, and so far he has been. Not that it will directly translate, but it would be a huge cause for concern if he was struggling against rookies and G Leaguers.

That pull up jumper is looking silky smooth.

It really is. I'm glad we can address a really big need of this team in adding a midrange jump shooter.

It's all progress. He's got plenty of time to work on stretching it out to 3. Plus, we haven't gotten a chance to see how he is with catch and shoot.

For sure. I know the Spurs development staff knows what they're doing. If he can learn to play defense, which he mightily struggles with, he should be able to crack the rotation. He and the coaching staff both know this is his main weakness right now.

That has to be because of the Cousins deal right?

I don't think that it's related. We could only offer him the rest of the mid level regardless. Who knows if the Spurs were even really interested in Cousins.

Bobby Marks is reporting that this could be part of a sign and trade so the spurs will maintain their full MLE. Interesting. Wonder what's in the works.

Wonder if we will even use the MLE now. Morris still out there. Iggy possible if bought out.

Well damn. Don't like losing the one stretch 4 we had, but it's a definite defensive upgrade that's for sure

I like this move.

Carroll + Morris will provide more than Bertans did. Bertans never seemed to get over the hump.

Hell of a pickup. Defense and toughness. Can spread the floor. Will fit this team like a glove. He should be in starting lineup.

I take a nap and we sign the free agent 4 I liked best all along!

I'll miss Davis, I enjoyed his shooting and he always played hard, but man I'm super excited about Morris.

So what are y'all projected starting lineups? I'm thinking:

Murray
Forbes (or White)
Derozan
morris
Aldridge

I think the best version of this team probably hinges on White accepting the Manu role. Starters:

Murray
Forbes
DD
Morris
LA

Then

White
Lonnie/Patty/Marco
Gay
Carroll
Poeltl

Gives both lineups good floor spacing, playmaking, and decent defense. You hope Murray, Morris, and LA can cover defensively for DD and Forbes. Then a closer lineup of Murray, white, DD, Gay, and LA. I don't think White's 3 point shot is good enough to provide the spacing Forbes can at this point.

Assuming they feel Lonnie can earn some rotation minutes, I have to think we are going to move one of Patty, Forbes, or Marco. Just too many bodies at that 1/2 spot.

I think you're spot on with your lineups. Carroll and Gay can both play the 3 or 4, so they can both play next to Demar, Morris, each other, and either of our bigs. Lots of versatility and switchability.

As far as the number of guards, I think Lonnie (and Marco) will get some minutes as the 3 in some up tempo small ball lineups. PATFO has always been big on limiting minutes for his studs so Demar will get plenty of rest. Rudy and DeMarre are both gonna be 33 and Rudy is only a couple years removed from that Achilles injury, so there will still be plenty of games where one of those guys don't play for the purposes of resting and load management. I think we'll find plenty of time to work Lonnie into the lineup and then as the season progresses and we get down to playoff time he'll have had plenty of time to prove he belongs in regular rotation along side all those guys.

In case anyone needed some convincing on what Morris brings offensively.

True. I didn't think through all of the possible matchup shifts that we'll likely see. One thing is for sure - this team is deep. Everyone, except maybe Carroll since I haven't watched him super closely, have the skills to be pretty high level contributors in the right roles.

And as much as I think one of the guards needs to go to make room, I think Patty and Marco can actually be solid contributors still this year, especially now that we have some perimeter defenders that can help mask their weaknesses.

This team is easily 11 deep, 12 assuming Lonnie cracks the rotation.

Carroll will be solid for us. Hustle and doing the dirty work will be his calling card and he still hits the 3 well enough to not be a black hole.

Depth is key and how you win regular season games. If we had more depth last season, we might have gotten a higher seed (only two games out of 5th). Plus, we can put some seriously salty defensive lineups out there, which we never had a single lineup that could be called "good" on defense last season. So those end of game leads where we just need to choke an opponent out are possible now, and we can hide guys like Demar, Patty, Bryn, Marco much easier now.

I think Patty and Marco will both see their numbers cut, especially as the season goes on. However, they're both really good locker room guys with championship experience. And they're always available for instant offense.

Murray
White
Carroll
Morris
LA

Is a pretty nice defensive lineup for end of game stop situations. Sub Gay for LA against smaller lineups or for Murray/White against bigger lineups.
