Fun to remember the dominance of the 2014 "Beautiful Game" team, but this really puts into perspective the job Carlisle did.
The wife and I were at game 3 where Vince Carter hit that last second shot.

After Vince Hit that shot and everyone was filing out 3 different Mavs fans tried to pick fights with me. It was the last straw in a series of Spurs/Mavs games in Dallas that made us say we'll never go back to watch a game there as Spurs fans.

Once we got out of the arena and were walking to the car, two other different groups of Mavs fans were all talking about their calendars for June to make sure they could attend the Finals when they inevitably made it.
Was at that one too. Managed to avoid the d'bag Dallas fans, but damn what a frustrating loss.

Crazy that turned out to be our most difficult opponent of that run.

Glad you avoided the dbag fans. I haven't been to a ton of Spurs away games but we lived in Dallas for a long time and would go see the Spurs when they were in town. That was the last time we went.

  • cussed out my 7 year old nephew
  • threw beer and popcorn on my wife and mother-in-law when they went by themselves
  • several games where Mavs fans attempted to pick fights and physically confront us
We are not loud or obnoxious fans, especially on the road. We try to cheer for the Spurs but not make a spectacle recognizing we're in "hostile territory". But attending Mavs games as a Spurs fan is easily my worst sports fan experiences.

Apparently the three teams (according to some NBA guy named Khris Johnson) that have called about DeMar are Chicago, Orlando, and Detroit.

Wouldn't want any of Detroit's trash.

If you could get Otto Porter Jr out of Chicago or Fournier out of Orlando, that would round out the Spurs team with a really solid SF.

Not a fan of Fournier. Orlando really doesn't have anything imo that The Spurs should be interested in.

Otto Porter makes sense fit wise, if you believe that one of White, Murray, or Walker is ready to take the next step and be the go to guy down the stretch in games. Demar is still our best creator, and although he's not a great shooter, he does distribute very well. Porter is a big SF, shoots 40% from 3, solid defender, decent rebounder, but he's not a creator. However, he's got an almost identical contract to Demar. That's a ton of money for a 3 and D wing. Plus he could also opt out after this season, or he opt in/resign, but at what cost? He's not worth $27 mil a year. Maybe if Chicago threw in a couple picks (one of which would need to be their 2022 first rounder), then maybe.

Gordon would be another option from Orlando.

Even if they did Gordon + Fornier for Marco+DeRozan, I don't think it makes the Spurs better.

Yea it's highly unlikely we trade DeRozan. It just doesn't make a lot of sense.

Just wish Derozan could step up to another level

I really think Lonnie is gonna be beastly soon

If Demar could shoot a measly 30% from 3 on about 2.5 attempts per game, our offense and spacing would be light years better.

https://theblast.com/c/kawhi-leonard-nike-lawsuit-counter-suit-trademark-design-court-nba

The Nephew had an idea for his KL logo using his hand and gave a sketch to Nike. Nike made it not look like a 5-year-old did it and used it on merch and registered it. When the Uncle decided to sign with New Balance, the logo stayed with Nike based on their agreement in 2011.

Hard to believe Uncle Dennis would screw this up.

Kawhi is a weird dude.

I said this at the beginning of the nephew saga, but having a family member be in charge of basically running your life is a horrible idea. He'll never fire uncle Dennis because of his family ties, even though he has no real qualifications for doing any of this.

Uncle Dennis was once assistant to the branch manager of a local bank.

Pop will be the last one standing. From the Athletic.

Quote:

The news: After a little more than 15 years serving as GM, Buford is getting prepared to bequeath the role to assistant GM Brian Wright, league sources have confirmed to The Athletic. Wright will report directly to Buford, who will officially get a new title that some around the NBA believe will be a role helping to oversee Spurs Sports & Entertainment.

When the Spurs initially hired Wright in 2016, he stayed behind the scenes and focused mainly on scouting. But sources have informed The Athleticover the last year Wright has been more involved, even fielding calls and packages for the trade of Kawhi Leonard the previous summer.

Wright has made his presence felt over the last few weeks, too. He led the negotiations to re-sign Rudy Gay to a two-year deal that could be worth up to $32 million. Wright assisted in engineering the sign-and-trade of DeMarre Carroll and trade of Davis Bertans to Washington to free up money to offer what turned out to be a deal involving Morris that fell apart.

Buford has been busy preparing for a new role over the last years taking business/leadership courses at Stanford University and Duke University.

It's still uncertain if anything will be different with Wright as GM. Ask those in the NBA about his management style. The University of Central Florida product and Maryland native is praised for his hands-on approach, "engaging, authentic and trustworthy," one NBA agent said.

"I like Brian," another agent added. "I think he's sharp."

Whoa. If you would have told me one of the big three would join our coaching staff, my first two guesses would not have been Tim Duncan.

What's crazy is that we will probably see her coach the team at some point this year when Pop gets ejected. That will be history making.

It still doesn't compute in my brain that Tim Duncan is an NBA coach. I don't see how this will be long term for him. Maybe he is just gonna be with Pop until he retires. I hope I'm wrong though.

SAS on Uncle Dennis:

Quote:

"This is me putting on my reporter's hat here. People in NBA circles are talking about this right now: Allegedly, the uncle, Uncle Dennis, was asking for a lot of stuff from the other teams; houses, planes, sponsorship, guaranteed sponsorship money, just as an example. They're throwing this stuff out there. All of those things are supposedly illegal in the collective bargaining agreement. I have no idea whether this is true or not. I'm not trying to cast any aspersions on Uncle Dennis, but people in NBA circles are talking about this as we speak.

SAS may loud, obnoxious and mostly intolerable but Uncle Dennis is on another level in my opinion.
