Memphis got their first road win this season.

The starters started slow the first quarter and defense has been bad. Demar disappeared this game and they give him the ball to try and tie the game in under a minute.

LMA is inconsistent from game to game and Bryn started scoring later in the game. The bench helped out.

Didn't see the game last Saturday but the starters don't look like they're connecting.

The starting lineup just doesn't fit. Dejounte, Demar, and LA all need the ball in the spots on the floor to be effective. Bryn is the only outside threat, so there's just no spacing.

I agree on the spacing with the starters. I've seen when a spur has the ball and if they are driving there's another spur there and their defenders and it's a cluster. Demar doesn't shoot threes and his mid range is inconsistent. Murray needs to add the mid range and three to space it out.

At what point in the season do they look at the long term and blow this up with trading Demar, Lamarcus and other bloated contracts?

That seems to be like the thing to do. But we won't do that with Pop as coach.

I could see trading Demar but LMA has been rock solid. I wouldnt trade him. This franchise is not looking to tank.

Five thirty Eight has Spurs with Currently 4% chance of making playoffs as of Nov. 12 and game data in thus far.

Obviously still young season but maybe interesting site to follow.

Kevin O'Connor wrote a piece on the Spurs today. He mentioned that the Orlando Magic are scouring the market for a scoring guard and have already expressed interest in DeMar. He also went on to mention that the front offices he has spoken to said they would not be surprised if the Spurs traded DD.

Would probably have to throw in a first rounder too but I'd be all for it. It's gonna be hard to much of anything for him on an expiring deal though.

This team just gave up 106 points in 3 quarters. This is like all time bad spurs defense.

We are so bad defensively.

This is just a poorly constructed team. That's all there really is to it.

DD scoring 25 a game. Great time to trade him.

DD has made more midrange shots than six different NBA teams.

Nah, we should just continue to play Marco 17 mins a game.

But really I think the main issue is defense. And I don't know if that's a personnel issue or communication/chemistry issue. Or both.

A lot of teams are monitoring the Aaron Gordon situation. Hopefully the spurs are one of them.

What's the situation? He didn't rip LeBron's headband off and hit him with it, did he?

Don't know. It was according to Shams. But apparently the Magic aren't interested in moving him.

Don't think that was a flagrant foul in the end to seal the win.

I think four losses in a row is reason enough to make some rotation adjustments. Getting tired of the same old song every night. Starting lineup net negative is getting really old.

DD really is unplayable at the end of close games.

14 seconds left in a two possession game and he spent 9 of them dribbling in place almost at the hash. He always finds a way to give up an open basket, turn it over, take a really bad shot, or waste critical time. He's not focused on defense, can't shoot, and doesn't protect his dribble very well. Great iso scorer against soft defenses, but there are no soft defenses or true iso in the playoffs.

No doubt about it. But we continue to go to him. It makes no sense.

He's shooting a career high field goal percentage. But it's almost fools gold. He's also averaging a career high in turnovers. Not to mention all the points he gives up on the other end. He's bad news. This was the best we could do for Kawhi freaking Leonard? I can't help but think of the other possible trade options we had (like the Tobias Harris and a lottery pick). It's like we salivated at the fact that he was coming off an all NBA/Allstar season but didn't evaluate the type of player he was. I'd like to give RC more credit than that, but I really think he made a mistake even if his hands were tied.

Another player that hasn't played toohot lately is Forbes. His shooting has been really inefficient and offenses are just straight up targeting him.

I like Forbes the way i liked Mills... economical shooter who tries really hard on defense even though he's bad at it. But you can support a bad defender if he's surrounded by good defenders. I've listed the minutes per game for minus defenders below:

DD 34
Forbes 27
Gay 22
Mills 21
Beli 17

The problem is that we don't have many good defenders. DJ is the best obviously. White seems to not be as good this year. And Aldridge is getting exposed badly in PnRs. He's the guy, to me, who's really taken a step back defensively.

I think we got a good one in Keldon at the end of the draft. He's putting up good numbers so far in Austin: 22 points on 56% shooting, 88% from the free throw line, 6 rebounds, 2.5 assists. However, he's 0-fer from 3 in 4 games and is also turning it over 3 times a game. I'd like to see them give him the Danny Green treatment and tell him to just launch it on any 3 pointer he has so that we can get him shooting it from outside.

He had some nice games in summer league where his 3 was falling. That's something that Chip can work on. As far as the turnovers, he is still young and his usage rate won't be high with the Spurs as he will be a role player.

I just like him because he is always moving and active. As skinny as his frame is he is very strong. He's deceptively very long, he just has a short neck.
Ulrich
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Yeah. I always had Aldridge down as someone who will defend to the extent that the people around him demand it. That worked when he came in, but now he has to anchor the defense AND be the one demanding that other people defend... he's just not that guy. He defends hard when he gets mad or when he sees the potential for a highlight play. That's not how you get a good defense.

I still think White is a plus defender. Murray is, too. Next best defender is probably Lyles?

Another thing we haven't talked about is rebounding. I'm not sure what the stats say, but it feels like they give up a LOT of offensive rebounds, and even when they get the rebound it's a lot more contested than it should be. Box-outs are poor and there's too much waiting flat-footed for the ball instead of going and getting it.

Spurs are actually 4th best in the NBA in opponenet's offensive rebounds per game.

76ers 7.4
Kings 8.2
Magic 8.5
Spurs 8.6
Suns 8.9

No one else under 9.

Hornets are league average at 10.2
Raptors are worst at 13.5

Oh, and to put this in context, those minutes mean that we average 2.5 bad defenders on the floor. Murray and White are our plus defenders, that comes out to 1 plus defender on the floor. The other 1.5 is Aldridge, Lyles, and Poeltl.
