This is all an attempt to appease Luka to get him to sign the extension this off-season. That keeps him here through at least 2027 and gives the FO more flexibility in terms of building a team.

I don't know if it was Donnie or Cuban, but I've never been a fan of our teams philosophy to piss away the draft nearly every year.

Would be nice if Cuban brought in a gm who valued drafting and development.

Masai is regarded as the best GM in the league. Every team would want him. Many have already tried to get him (Wizards and Knicks). Unless Cuban is willing to offer equity or a raise beyond comprehension, the chances of Masai coming to Dallas is...low.

It's been rumored he is planning on leaving Toronto no matter what. I agree with you that every team that has an opening will want him, and we'll need to figure out how give him an offer that is better than anyone else, but the hurdle of him wanting to leave Toronto has already been cleared

? Where has that been rumored? I've only heard the exact opposite.

Marc Stein reported as recently as April that "It is widely presumed in league circles that only an overwhelming offer in a highly desirable market could lure him away from the influence and affection he has amassed in Toronto".

As I said, Cuban would have to blow him away. He's not leaving to leave.

Latest update was four weeks ago where he said there is nothing new regarding his contract expiring with Toronto. Raptors very well might re-sign him, but it looks like he wants a job that is a bit more than what he's doing now in Toronto.

Yea he wants ownership equity. That's what i said originally. Cuban would have to give him a piece of equity because control wise, he already has that in Toronto. The offer would have to be beyond a simple raise and if we're being honest, Cuban can't even promise him 'full control' b/c no Mavs FO employee has ever had full control (ie Rosas).

He's signing the extension no matter what, because the money is insane.

It's really just a statement by the Mavericks that there was clearly some dysfunction in the front office, and that since the 2006 Finals the Mavericks have gotten passed the first round exactly one year. They won the NBA finals that year, but only achieving the absolute baseline of success isn't a great track record over that period. And the main reason for that lack of success is a lack of a well constructed team.

Not concerned about Luka signing his contract, not worried about this being a detriment to his desire to be here long term, I think that's more about what they do as far as building a team after this blow up than the blow up
itself.

Your point remains, but I had to go back and check if the only year we won a series since 06 was 2011. In 09 we beat the Spurs in 5 then got rocked by the Nuggets while the news of Dirk's ex fianc got out.

10 years of no playoff wins with the exclamation point of the disastrous past offseason should have been enough to fire any GM. Wasted Curry. Wasted picks. Did nothing that helped this team. Awful

Donnie Nelson has been a nothing burger in my opinion. He always talked about the " big fish" and " keeping the powder dry" but he must have the personality of a stump because nobody willing chooses to come to Dallas to play basketball.

Everyone the Mavericks have is pretty much drafted ( very few) or traded for.

It doesn't make sense to me because plenty of baseball players, football players, and golfers choose to live in the area and have no problem with it.

he is still signing his supermax and not going anywhere.

A new GM fixes the situation and this summer drama.

Dirk and Fin being more involved in the org is really good.

Haralabob is gone.

Biggest Q is Carlisle. If Milwaukee opens up, does he go there?
