Any recs for best "reliable" mock draft predictions or is it all just a crap shoot? Obviously anyone in their basement can create one and see some mocks having the Spurs taking a guard with the 20th pick.

The Athletic puts out a super detailed draft board that is a great read. Not out yet.

TheRinger is usually easy to consume, but less accurate. https://theringer.com/nba-draft/2026/big-board

I think Givoney and Woo at ESPN actually talk to a lot of front offices and probably have the best grasp on what teams are thinking and their board/mock usually reflects that.

I really like NoCeilings and some of the smaller brands.

Probably not worth the time: KOC/Yahoo.

I have him lower than Morez and Yaxel and think he will be more of a undersized center than a PF in the NBA. I would absolutely take him at 20, but he will be long gone.

You guys are funny, posting all this draft stuff in the middle of the playoffs!

I mean, yeah, we did the same thing in the Dallas Cowboys thread, but that's because we weren't in the playoffs and we had nothing better to talk about.

If Quaintance is healthy, that would put him higher on the board imo.

Yeah, he could be an absolute monster, but I don't think he is going to fit super well with Wemby because he can't shoot and will clog the paint. So that limits his usefulness going forward. But replacing Kornet in a year or two? Absolutely. Upside defensively is BAM.

But the offensive side holds me back. 38-84 from the FT line for his career (45%.) No shot at all outside the restricted area. Plus the major injuries.

Is this the actual outside renderings?

I hope I did not offend anybody with this post. If I did, please come see me at my address in my profile so we can talk.

I love the potential, but a lot of red flags. The videos of his workouts make it look better, but he's still jumping and landing on the other leg consistently. Feels like he's just getting better at compensating.

Just don't want a big who can't shoot. We need someone who can come in ready to shoot and space the floor.
AggieEP

I already posted it but the "need" and it's a bougie type of need for an already good team is for a legit PF sized athlete that can guard 3-5 and NOT clog the paint offensively.

It would drastically increase what we could do tactically by being able to run a big lineup of

Harper
Castle/Vassell
Bryant
New Guy
Wemby

That would be our defensive lineup of doom for other teams.

The fear is that if we get to the finals and have to play the Knicks, they could go double big with KAT and Robinson and we can't match that size. Add in OG Anunoby and their front line is really physically imposing. Doesn't mean we can't beat them, but their personnel could be a challenge for us and it puts a lot of pressure on Wemby to bang down low with a couple of guys that are way thicker than him. Ideally we find someone in the draft that could be our banger.

Yeah, which is why I would trade up for Morez Johnson, something I am not usually willing to do.

1. Draft Morez. 6'9 251lb 7'4 wingspan. 62/34/78 shooter.
2. Draft Tarris Reed or Reuben Chinyelu at #35.
3. Sign PF/C Marvin Bagley with part of MLE. 2y
4. Sign PF Dean Wade with the rest of the MLE. 2y
5. Resign Barnes
6. Resign Jordan McLovin

C: Wemby - Kornet - Bagley - Reed/Chinyelu
F: Bagley - Wade - Morez
W: Vassell - Bryant - Barnes
G/W: Castle - Julian - Keldon
PG: Fox - Harper - Jordan

Wade will be a great D&3 for most 4-out matchups. Morez can develop at his own speed.

Bagley sucks on the perimeter, but he has been a plus defender down low. He's 6'10 and 235 and shot 24 of 52 from three this year and was 39% last year. I think he is big enough to bang with some guys like Randle/KAT but also has to be defended at the 3pt line.

Wade is a very good defender and 6'9 230. Career 40% corner three shooter. 41% last two years. Real lunch pail guy. Scrappy.

Good times! I've become a huge NFL draft nerd over the past 15 years or so. It's a lot of fun and it's so fullfilling when your team wins on draft night.

I bet you lost your mind watching Wemby throughout the process and then watched SA win the lottery!

How did you feel about the Castle and Harper picks at the time? Were they your top targets going into draft night?

Yeah, I like the idea of investing heavily in versatile 4's because you want to protect Wemby from the most physical aspects of the game. There is a reason that AD famously refuses to play center, it's physically demanding to be down there in the scrum every possession, so for the longevity of Wemby's career and to maximize the energy he can spend on offense we have to have the ability to take some of that burden off of him.

The teams in spots 14-18 all have 2 1st round picks this year, I think we could offer any of those teams Atlanta's unprotected 1st in 27 and they'd accept. I'd consider that fair value for us to add pick 15, take Morez and then take Karim at 20 as a longer term project.

There is some risk with ATL pick maybe ending up higher than 15 next year, but I think in the long run you don't care if you think that Morez is the guy you want.

Wemby just kept getting better and better. There was a lot of worry initially about his injuries when he was younger (stress fractures, back problems, etc) and that he would have a Ralph Sampson-like career because he would never be strong enough to handle the rigors of the NBA. What is amazing his is Spurs-like mindset in addition to his abilities and natural gifts.

In 2024, there was hope for a while that Risacher would drop to 4 and Castle would drop to 8. I was always all-in on Castle and thought he would be perfect, but he has exceeded expectations by far. Like others (AggieEP) I also thought Devin Carter would be great and when it was clear that Charlotte would take Castle, I wanted Castle at 4 and Carter at 8. I never liked Matas that much. I outright hated Dillingham. I was also (and still am) interested in Tijuan Salan. I never wanted Topic, but a lot of Spurs fans did.

Harper was the clear #2 but even then he has exceeded expectations by far. He's going to be All-NBA for years. I liked VJ and Kon as well as Jeremiah Fears, but hated Ace Bailey. I was also really high on Thomas Sorber, CMB, Cedric Coward and Carter Bryant for our 14th pick. As has been discussed here before, I was all out on Derik Queen. I still feel very good about that, even though he had some big games early. I don't think he is ever a good player on a contending team.

It depends if they change the lottery rules. The 9/10 seeds would have a 5.4% chance at #1 (same as 3 worst teams) and the 7/8 loser will have a 2.4%. Hawks could definitely be there.

I would definitely be in favor of moving up in this draft if it doesn't cost too much.

One time, after the draft is over, I wish Brian Wright would sit down and show their draft board and explain their thought process. Are they looking for best fit or bpa? Are trades always an option or are you content to stand pat? I'm sure it would never happen but I think it would be pretty cool.

That would be awesome. They aren't allowed to talk about their draft board publicly because all the players on it are on other teams and they can't talk about wanting a player on another team, because it is tampering.

The Express-News guys will likely have some inside information on their podcast after the draft that will shine some light and they tend to let things go later - sometimes years later. Like they explained that the Spurs were never considering Rob Dillingham and that was all Timberwolves. I know I heard it elsewhere first, but I think they have talked about how Kawhi was our second choice and Klay was our first choice and if neither fell to 15, we were going to keep Hill and try to draft Jimmy Butler at 29.

There is no chance we draft 4 players and use all three seconds. I just want us to use 35 on a backup center because I think there will be a lot of great options there.
