good luck to the rays. they should be able to dispatch of the rangers in a timely fashion by this time next week. Hopefully the twins can take out the MFY as well.

Keith/Herbie/Royal/TSG, why do you care so much about the Rangers? I know you live in that market but still... sounds personal rather than sports oriented.

As a Sox fan, hating the Rangers is like hating a brand of lightbulb. Just can't do it.

Very weird to a Sox fan!

i have zero hate whatsoever for the rangers.

i just believe that the rays will handle them pretty easily, that's all.

My dislike is for the posters on here that are rangers fans that believe their team is going to do or has done something special when nothing of any significance has been accomplished at all.

Yeah, I know that I've been letting them get on my nerves as well. I'm getting to the last ones just in general somedays. So, it's this termite effect, it seems like they're all coming out of the woodwork.

On the AL East thread (and probably the Cubs thread), the personalities and positions are known quantities, so it's almost like a credibility issue. I know corleoneAg is the Oriole guy around here, so when he chimes in, I know where he's coming from. Same for Captain Insano, even though he's an infrequent poster these days.

Sports Guy, if you have zero hate for the Rangers why do you jump on almost every single positive Rangers thread on this board to tell everybody not to get excited? Isn't that the point of being a fan?

Your "unrealistic expectations" BS could just as easily have applied to the hapless Red Sox in 2003. You need to remember that the Sox were probably the most inept franchise in the league (aside from the White Sox, who for some reason were never mentioned at all) less than ten years ago. Any fan of any team in the AL East (save the brand new Tampa Rays) could've talked down to you and any other Red Sox just a short time ago based on recent accomplishments and number of titles since World War 1. It took a wild card team full of "idiots" to make your team matter again, and they did it against pretty strong odds.

In that sense, the 2004 Red Sox and the 2010 Rangers are not all that different at this point. Not really sure where you or any Red Sox fan would have any sort of authority to tell the Rangers what or what not to expect.

Keep it up though, you just make yourself look childish.

Kid, I hope you know who the everyday Rangers fans are on this board. Most are pretty good posters.

As a guy who has passionately followed the Rangers for a long time, I can say that at this point in the season I already consider 2010 to be a success. I don't expect to last long in the playoffs, but the positives that will come from this season far outweigh the negatives. The future is VERY bright for the Rangers.

Here's to an entertaining series, know that at least for me anything I post is in good fun.

Sports Guy, diaf.

I'm starting to pick up on them a little bit, but it's still a work in progress. It's like working in an office building... I might see faces in the elevator and they may start becoming "familiar," but for the most part they're all working on other floors. The consistent and repetitive interaction isn't there yet.

the 2004 red sox played a 7 game series in the ALCS a year before and had multiple playoff appearances (and zero losing seasons) recently prior to that.

their last losing season was 1997

the last time they went 10 years between playoff appearances: 1975-1986

But let's just humor you for a second and say you are right about the teams being similar up to this point. The 2004 red sox ultimately won their 1st round series (as they did the year before). Then they further validated themselves by beating the MFY and going on to sweep the WS.

if by some miracle the rangers are able to do all of that (hell make it out of the 1st round), I will absolutely give them the credit that they will then deserve. But right now they have done nothing to deserve that credit, and i wish you rangers fans would simply acknowledge that fact.

There is not a single Ranger fan on this board that won't acknowledge that the playoff history in Texas is pretty abysmal. Three appearances, one win.

Your obsession goes far beyond needing to "prove" this point to the choir.

Jesus Herb,

You act like an impetulant child at times. Where do you have the credibility to sheet on other teams.

Hell, every true Sawks fan that I know (and I am from, and live, in New England) is about as fatalistic a bunch as you will EVER meet.

You prance on this board as if being a Sawks fan is your birthright seeing as your dad is from Mass. And that birthright gives you the right to be a complete jerk to anyone who can't claim the same.

That doesn't fly in Sox Nation. But I wouldn't expect you to understand that, having never actually lived in Sox Nation.

I don't know what to tell ya Chowdah. We all can't be as noble and courteous as you.

I subscribe to the "misery loves company" theory. If my team isn't winning, i'm miserable and walk around in a bad mood. I don't want anybody immeditately close to me (whether it be on a message board i frequent, my friends and family, co-workers, etc) to be happy about their teams. If that's childish, so be it.

if the sox had been given the chance to play to their expectations at the start of the season and still come up short it would be one thing, but injuries robbed this team of that opportunity and as a fan i feel shortchanged.

When the rangers fans failed to acknowledge that as a major reason for the way things played out this year, it pissed me off and I felt the need to lash out. It is what it is. I'm sorry i don't fit into your definition of what a true red sox fan should be.

now i'm going to watch the Pats game and try to put this waste of a season behind me.

It is, but it doesn't have to be.

BTW - it doesn't make you less of a fan to acknowlege others' success. I am friends with several Yankee fans. When it is on, it is on. But when all is said and done, we're still baseball fans and we're still friends.

PS. I don't judge people's allegiances. I've said that many times. If you say you are a natural Sox Fan, then you are... Who am I to say otherwise. I have been very consistent on this.

However, you are the ONLY Sox fan that I know that acts entitled.

Such a big baby. We're all laughing at you in Rangersland, Herbie. Good grief.

Your injury theory has been debunked a thousand times on this board. The Rangers dealt with just as many injuries to key players as the Red Sox did. The only difference was that we didn't replace the injured with high priced backups.

I'm glad you're "suffering", you bandwagon wannabe.

Wow internet tough guay (or however someone from Bwastan would say it).

How about you compare the number of games Youk and Pedroia have missed with the number of games Kinsler, Hamilton, and Cruz have missed before you piss and moan about injuries and us not acknowledging your ****ty team this season. Or maybe you could figure out you suck because your pitching staff is shallow, your lineup is overrated and you don't have a catcher on your roster that could get a ball to second if he could throw from the mound?

If it bothers you that much seeing people excited about the Rangers, why do you even read threads about them. Its like you just love reading things that make you mad. I've said this a number of times already, this is a message board that is 90% people from Texas. There are a lot of Rangers/Astros fans on here. If you don't like it, don't read it or don't get on. Its that simple. Being upset that your team didn't do well this year is understandable, but you have gone a little overboard with it. Remember its just a game.
