Rosenthal reporting Ellsbury will be offered $21 mil/year for 6 or 7 years by Seattle and good chance of him taking it.

I hope for the Mariners sake that Safeco has a good sports accident insurance division.

why would he consider going to seattle? every free agent seems to go there and turn into a shell of themselves

Yeah, going to Seattle is kinda dumb.

But I'm sure our thresholds for doing dumb things is way less than $21 million.

The Chone Figgins disaster notwithstanding, unless the baselines are longer in Seattle, I don't think there's really any reason why Ellsbury's game couldn't work up there.

It would seem odd that after Magic got slapped for saying about a player NOT in the playoffs, "Cano will get paid, just not by us," that we'd hear rumors of Seattle discussing Ellsbury while the Sox are still playing.

My guess is an agent is stoking fire. The only other potential option is Season Ticket orders went out in Seattle and the response has been poor.

Looking at the 2014 roster for a team that went 71-91... they have $34M committed and other than Felix and Iwakuma... you can see why the coach said, "Yeah... I'm out."

The AL West is just a wreck.

his agent is scott boras. Boras isn't one to usually leak stuff like this before a player has finished the season

He's from the Pacific NW and went to Oregon State. Part of the reason the M's will go hard after him.

I'd like for them to land him then possibly Choo or Crisp in the OF. Then get an aging DH (after Morales declines qualifying offer) and see what options there are at 1B. A few additions and this team could be somewhat competitive.

Carlos Ruiz just got a 3 year deal with a club option for a 4th.

Good news for Salty and Pierzinski, salty especially. Bad news for the Sox trying to re-sign him to a 2 year deal

Nothing says "I really want to maximize my opportunity to score big" like a struggling pitcher signing on with San Diego.

If he can redeem himself... and pitching in San Diego is the best chance any pitcher has for that... he could get one last big score, yet.

He was intriguing... but too much risk to add to a Rangers' team with little room for adding question marks.

Murphy - I really liked him as a 4th OF... However - 2yr/$12M + Option?! I'm losing perspective of what players are really worth, if he is worth $6M/yr... of course... I thought the same thing when Texas signed Berkman.

well if each WAR is worth ~6M then he's actually a steal at 2/12 considering his 1.7 WAR average.

Minnesota signs Phil Hughes for 3 years, 24 million.

WTF????? That guy is lucky to get on a team. Let alone 8 mil a year.

who knows, he may have just needed to get away from the cesspool that is mfy stadium with that ridiculously short RF porch.

I could see him being a serviceable 4/5 starter in pitcher friendly Minnesota with little to no expectations.

8MM is nothing nowadays. That contract will be worth it for the twins if he stays healthy and just gives them league average production over the next 3 years.

and if something crazy happens and he finds "it" he could be a very valuable trade piece to a contender if the twins are out of it.

8 mil means something to the Twins

8 million would make a player one of the top 5, or fewer, in some cases, highest paid players on quite a few rosters.

I certainly would expect to get better than average performance from an $8 million a year player.
