There wasn't much baseball on TV at that point, at least not when we didn't have cable in our area and the Dallas TV stations were very difficult to pick up. I loved watching TWIB and seeing his highlights. He seemed to be featured every week.
1991. Mike Greenwell. No good reason other than he was a good player on my favorite team. I was a second baseman and pitcher in little league, so you think someone like Clemens would be more my speed, but I didn't really like him as a person even at ten.
I couldn't really tell you why other than the general hype. I do remember going crazy over this catch he made against Ruben Sierra, but I think I liked him at that point already.
Reason: My name is Jeff, the Rangers had just started playing in Arlington a few years earlier, and anytime I wanted to watch the NBC game of the week it was preempted by "Soul Train"
1996. Cal Ripken Jr. Played shortstop in little league and I was on the orioles.
Favorite ranger was Juan Gone. I got his autograph in '98 before a game. That night he hit two homeruns/4 rbi off of the Big Unit which gave him 101 rbi before the break. He went on to win mvp that season.
Davis because in my mind he was the greatest home run hitter to ever walk the face of the earth. Ryan because in my mind he was the greatest Texan to ever walk the face of the earth.
But he was basically my favorite from as far back as I could remember and still is.
2nd was Rusty Greer(thanks to him being incredibly nice and signings baseballs before a game while pudge was being the biggest ******* ever--amazing what you pick up on as as a young kid)
