My parents were friends with Gregg Gross when he was with the Astros and then he went to the Phillies and I was named after him so I became a huge Phillies fan.

Toss up between Ryne Sandberg and Nolan Ryan.

Sandberg because my older brother was a big Cubs fan and I followed suit, and Nolan because he's Nolan. I could never decide who to root for if they were both in the All Star game.

Biggio, Even though Bagwell was MVP that year.

Nolan Ryan was way up there, but retired the year before.

1977 baseball season, and I think it was Pete Rose, or it might have been Johnny Bench. Huge Red machine fan back then. Liked Rose, and stood by him all those years. Then, he admitted he lied and wouldn't give a nickel for that POS now.

The Braves were on TBS. It was the only team I could follow.

Ivan PUDGE Rodriguez. 2001. I've still never seen a catcher who can get the ball to second as fast as he did. I wouldn't be surprised if that ball was moving 95 mph when he threw.

Not gonna lie, it was Canseco. Had the Topps Canseco folder in my Trapper Keeper. Used to mimic that ridiculous twitch he had in his stance. Thought going 40/40 was so cool

The strike year My Grandfather was dying of cancer and basebball was his favorite sport. He was so pissed the players took that away from him.

1998, It was eitherPudge Rodriguez, or Ken Griffey Jr. Loved watching those guys. Pudge was fun to watch work behind the plate, and throwing guys out trying to steal. Also seemed like every other at-bat was a XBH. Plus, I was catcher at that age and tried to be like him.
Griffey Jr. played every game like it was going to be his last, and perhaps that cost him later in his career and cut it short. He still might be one of the most impressive guys I have ever seen play in the outfield, and not to mention watching him just mash at the plate with the as easy of a swing as anyone I had ever seen. I even had a hitting video he made with his dad and brother.

Did you have some connection to SEA? He wasn't that big of a deal in '91. Only his 3rd year and was an AS & GG the year before. Maybe just jumped on the bandwagon early .

None at all. I grew up in DFW and was a Rangers fan.

Griffey was hyped as the #1 overall pick even before his rookie year. By 1991, he was very much a big deal. The dude just had an aura about him. The batting stance, the backwards hat, the '89 Upper Deck rookie card. To a 10 year old little leaguer, he was the coolest player I'd ever seen.

Always wanted to play SS and he did it as well as anyone in the mid-80s.

It was around that time I started following the Braves and liked Dale Murphy.

It was probably still Bill Buckner but that would have been the time Ryne Sandberg was taking over as that was his 2nd year with the Cubs. They won the division in 1984 and he was a huge part of that. I hated the White Sox but I was a big fan of Carlton Fisk at that time. I liked Greg Luzinski too.

Like most of those of similar age,

1999, Ken Griffey Jr. and Pudge Rodriguez.

Someone said it earlier, there just wasn't a cooler dude than Griffey. He was my favorite from the very beginning. I can remember playing Ken Griffey, Jr Presents MLB on the Super Nintendo way back when.

I grew up in Arlington, and grew up watching and hearing about Pudge.
