Why would batting average be the first thing you ever mention concerning Ausmus? He was never known for his offense, and you're talking about an old catcher in those years. He was a hell of a defensive catcher. 3 time gold glover and could call a hell of a game. Not to mention hit a 2 out, 9th inning, game tying homer in one of the most memorable Astros games in my lifetime.

At 10 I was a fan of the teams on tv the most so braves and cubs. David justice, Fred mcgriff, Andre Dawson, Mark Grace, and Ryan Sandberg. Of that group is put Dawson at #1, but I played catcher starting at age 9 or 10 and quickly became a pudge Rodriguez fan and he was my favorite not long after age 10. Loved watching Benito Santiago as well

Three favorites: 1988 (ages 10-12)

Ken Griffey Jr. - (89) He was an absolute phenom that I loved watching. He was soooo young and inspirational at the age he came into the league.

Pudge Rodriguez- (91) I played catcher and he was the best. Even as a rookie he was amazing. And he happened to be on my favorite team.

Ruben Sierra - (88) Guy could flat out play. He was a great hitter and good in the field. I loved watching him hit the long ball.

Of the three Pudge and Griffey are still of my two all time favorites. They were both young players when I really started paying attention to baseball. Loved watching them and rooting for them.

I was 10 in 1994.
Ryne Sandberg: Because all I had was WGN and Cubs games were all I saw loved him, even though he "retired" that year.

But favorite local player was Pudge.

I played centerfield on my baseball team, my cousins lived in Cinci and sent me a Reds hat for Christmas.

Back in the good ol days before Steroids took over baseball. He was top 5 in HRs three times in the 80s and won two silver sluggers.

1989, Chicago Cubs, Mark Grace.

Didn't hit for power, never showed emotion, hustled, team player.

Used to get home from school and watch the Cubs with Harry Carry, Don Zimmer, Shawon Dunston, Ryno, The Hawk play every afternoon. I remember the first night game on TV at Wrigley. I remember thinking "what's the big deal, the Astrodome has lights?"

2002: Craig Biggio, Greg Maddux.

I was a huge fan of both of them growing up. I was a big baseball junkie even before I was 10. Even though Maddux killed the Astros, I loved watching him pitch.

Other favorites: David Eckstein, Torii Hunter, Lance Berkman.
