Total Crane move if we do that.

Depends on a bunch of different things. First, what's the organization's strategy? Win in 2025, which would include re-signing Bregs. Then ok, Beli gets us there. Focus on 2026 and beyond (probably not re-signing Breggy), then I'm not sure getting Beli helps.

Would love to be a fly on the wall for his first interactions in our locker room with LMJ and Altuve … or Bregman if he's still here

He's not very good and will make $27M in 2025?

Look at our production in CF and 1B and compare it to what he can do. Career 122 vs RHP, 110 last year. Hes paid a lot but that means he's available and it's short term money. Or the Cubs would cover part of it if we want to offer more in prospect capital.

If we're not trying in 2025 then it means we're wasting prime seasons of Alvarez, Tucker, Yordan, and one the last few good ones from Altuve. We'd be foolish to not try and make a run.

I'm all for getting Beli if we re-sign Breggy and get some bullpen help.

It doesn't have to be Breggy but, yes, it needs to be paired with other big moves.

People often don't take into account how much it costs to be really rich.

Boras alone is gonna take what $15m of that right off the bat.

So yeah an extra $20m goes along way.

They're all friends. I've said it before but fans hold grudges longer than players do.

I'd imagine this still sticks with him in some of those guys eyes

Not really. These guys are all super competitive and understand emotions. They talk all the time. Imagine a fraternity.

Also. Keep in mind these guys often say to the media what needs to be said to appeal to their fanbase.

If the Astros players had a problem with Cody, they wouldn't have been pursuing him for 2-3 years now.

I'd be cool if we got him. I'm just saying I'd love to be a fly on the wall when he talks to them.

If I'm reading between the lines from texasaggie2015…Meyers, Montero, and Leon confirmed for Bellinger. Dana you sly SOB. Brilliant move!

97.5 this morning talking about seeing what Dana is made of while also saying Framber and Tucker are gone after this year because Crane won't pay them. Think Dana is just getting hung out to dry. No one can be expected to replace those players in general but especially with the farm he inherited and the loss of draft capital (Hader cost us both draft picks and international free agency money).

This is why IMO you go in for 25 then a few more years after. You can survive without Framber if a combination of get good Javier back, McCullers isn't dead, Brown staying about what he was last year, Spaghetti keeps developing, and/or we add some kind SP talent via FA or trade.

We cannot replace Tucker. There just isn't a stud like him on the market unless you get Soto. But you can still add to the offense and keep it good with a combination on FA signings and trades.

Unless Dana can perform a miracle with the draft and minors, the gig is up in 2027-28ish.

Callers on 790 say hold my beer...

Couple called in saying that Crane's 6/$156 is a low ball slap in the face offer and raking him over the coals for not making a legit offer just like he did with Morton, Keuchel, Springer, Correa.

Apparently this history shows Crane doesn't really want to win.

I agree with this. I'm typically a guy that wants the long-term success, but all of this talk of a soft rebuild by trading away Tucker and Framber is silly. Wasting prime Yordan for a soft rebuild is extremely silly in my book. The ONLY way it works is if the guys you get back contribute in the same year and are close in the aggregate to what we give up.

My opinion is if you're going to do a soft rebuild, you might as well just sell Yordan and a few of the young starters and start all over. The purgatory of always being an 85 win team year after year with no real shot at winning a championship is worse than 3 years of purely terrible baseball.

I don't see why we can't get players to just defer 95% of their salary for 10-15 years. If LA can do it, everyone can too.

I know in Ohtani's case the majority of players don't come close to raking in the money he makes on endorsements

yes, this is the Mariners syndrome

yearly win totals since 2016 ---> 86, 78, 89, 68, COVID, 90, 90, 88, 85 = 1 playoff appearance (swept)

If the player wants to defer their salary that's fine. But the team should have to count the full weight of the deferred salary for the CBT. Shohei's yearly salary would be $70MM but LA only has to count something like $43MM for the CBT.

The team is getting the benefit of the time value of money in the CBT.
