Don't yell at me please this is an honest question: if we trade Tuck why can't be resign Breggy

The bigger the deal, the harder it is to pull off, but it is fascinating to think of the possibility of pulling off a trade where (approximately, not counting prospects possibly needed to level things out) you send Tucker and Pressly out to Chicago (plus losing Bregman in FA) and get Paredes, Suzuki, and Bellinger in return.

You would be right at the tax line, one reliever short, but have traded one lineup mainstay for three to lengthen your lineup AND your window:

C Diaz
1B Singleton (move Belli to 1B and put Meyers/Dubon in CF against LHP)
2B Altuve
3B Paredes
SS Pena
LF Suzuki
CF Bellinger
RF McCormick
DH Alvarez

That is suddenly a much deeper lineup. If you drop the Pressly/Bellinger part, it is still an upgrade and you can flip Pressly another way that doesn't increase payroll like Belli.
That would be such a nice pivot to go all in in 2025 yet extend it to 26 and 27.

I still don't think we can get all that from Chicago.

We can, but with the way free agency is going Bregman might be going for much more than our 6/156 offer. Even if we upped it, teams might go over the top.

Alex would be a great fit for the Tigers.

Back with AJ and the vocal leader among all those young guys.

Wouldn't scare me too much but that'd be a phenomenal landing spot for him.

That is the second story (they obviously parrot the same reports) that mentions Paredes, Suzuki, and Cam Smith for Tucker. Surely the Cubs aren't dumb enough to give us all three for Tucker, are they?

I get that the Soto sweepstakes has everyone in a fever pitch, but if anything like that is on the table, Dana better shake on it before they come to their senses. Smith looks to be ML ready in 25/26 and would allow you to then slide Paredes to 1B.

Yeah, at this point there's just way too much smoke for him not to be gone IMO

Just in terms of team control that's a deal Dana would accept yesterday, I would have to believe.

Would Bregman want to be a part of a "rebuild" if we traded Tucker?

Is it really a "rebuild' with some of the trade options being discussed?

Maybe the Mets can get involved to try to be the first team to pay over $1 billion for 2/3 of a starting OF.

The Yankees "big offer" needs to start with two words. Dominguez & Gil.

If Tuck is gone, how do we all feel about his 6-ish seasons? WS champ, caught the final out, and all star (almost as a floor) in the regular season. It feels like we selling just at the peak of his value, but his prime is top 5-10 position player.

He won't have the same legacy as Springer, but everything you could expect for a top 5 draft pick. Luhnow and his team knew how to pick em, for the most part.

To me, that would just be the opening round for me to consider it over the Cubs supposed offer.

He wasn't clutch very often in the playoffs so he didn't have those big moments like Springer had.

Springer is the comp. Tucker just isn't nearly as likable.

I am ok with this deal, I think, as a Cubs fan. They are kind of a mess right now to be honest. All over the board.

I would hope they genuinely pursue an extension but seems unlikely after what Soto just got.

I think he had a great series against the White Sox in 2021 and the stud game 1 in 2022

But not many iconic moments that some others have had.

I still wish we could keep him though.

Fair. He outperformed Reddick in the 19 WS and probably should have played more. He killed it vs the White Sox as you mentioned. He had a big HR off Castillo in 22. And had a strong CS vs Boston in 21.

I think labeling him as some postseason chump is wrong (not saying you're doing that). That's all.

People forget Georgia was horrific in 17 until the WS came. But he has some sky-high highs.

Regardless of what the Yankees offer, that rumored Chicago trade would be a magic wand for club control and fixing your lack of quality options at both 3B and 1B while still getting a quality Tucker replacement in the OF. It could completely shift our sensibility of contention windows.

Kyle Tucker is an OUTSTANDING player, but short of going all-in for a World Series this year (which the Cubs are not in a position to do), I do not understand what would motivate you to do this. I get it with the Yankees, but I may grow much more fond of the Cubs if they do us a solid.
